Greetings, everyone, and welcome to the all-new SFI that we’ve rebuilt from the ground up!
I know many of you have been anxiously waiting to hear what we’ve been cooking up over the last few months. So let’s get it into it.
Those who know me well know that I’ve long been an admirer of Steve Jobs, one of the founders of Apple. I’ve greatly admired his unique views on business, his drive, and his goals (such as to “put a dent in the universe,” which he clearly did).
And while we lost Steve Job way, way too early, his spirit and his influence lives on in the millions and millions of Apple devices operating around the world.
So what does this have to do with SFI? Many may not remember this, but in 1985, Steve Jobs departed Apple after a long power struggle with the company's board and its then-CEO, John Sculley. For 12 years, Steve Jobs was away from Apple. Not surprisingly, Apple lost its way during those years and came near bankruptcy. But in 1997, Steve Jobs was brought back to try to revive the once-powerful company he had co-founded in 1976.
One of the first things Steve Jobs did upon his return was assess the company’s products and product lines. He was appalled by the bloat. He believed that Apple could be saved only with FOCUS and SIMPLICITY.
And he began immediately cutting products––ruthlessly. Within a very short time, a whopping 70% of Apple products were eliminated! Apple would now focus instead on a handful of products. And those products and how they were used would be as simple as humanly possible.
