When Ignorance Wounds the Innocent
There are stories that never leave you — even when you grow older, even when you try to forget.
I remember a child who once fell sick.
It wasn’t clear what kind of sickness it was; some said fever, some said measles, some said “ordinary illness.”
But not long after, the child’s back began to bend. Slowly. Painfully.
He was not born that way.
And just like that, whispers started.
Accusations began to fly.
People didn’t ask what happened medically — they started looking for who to blame spiritually.
They said it was a curse.
They said “someone” had turned him into that.
They went from one soothsayer to another, searching for explanations that never existed.
But deep down, it was never witchcraft.
It was never a curse.
It was a medical condition — something science could explain.
That kind of spinal curve is often caused by Pott’s disease, also called spinal tuberculosis.
It happens when tuberculosis spreads from the lungs to the spine.
The bones become weak, soft, and begin to collapse, making the back bend forward.
It’s slow. It’s painful. But it’s treatable if people recognize it early and seek proper care.
Sadly, many children suffer this way in silence.
And many innocent people are blamed, accused, or hated for things they never caused.
All because ignorance speaks louder than knowledge.
I share this story not to point fingers,
but to remind us that understanding saves lives.
Before we run to “soothsayers,” let’s remember — some sicknesses are not spiritual battles,
they’re medical conditions needing early treatment and care.
Let’s be kind with our words.
Let’s stop adding pain to those already in pain.
And let’s open our minds — because sometimes, truth is not hidden in fear or suspicion,
it’s right there in science and compassion.
🩺💙 Awareness saves lives. Ignorance destroys trust. Choose knowledge.
