ACT 3, THE ROADS

The route, laid out by Remi Gardet: close to 200 kilometres in seven stages, from the quai in Geneva to the fondue table that night. Out through the border at Gaillard and up the Salève to Monnetier-Mornex for coffee above the city. Then the long middle stage to the Plateau des Glières, the Col des Aravis with a choice between gravel and tarmac, the Col de la Colombière, the Chartreuse at Le Reposoir, and the descent into Cluses before the run back along the lake.

The field that drove it followed no brief. A 205 CTI behind a GT3 RS, an original Mini Cooper ahead of a Triumph Dolomite, a Saab 900 Turbo somewhere in between. Different decades, different budgets, same hairpins, same coffee stop. Nobody was told what to bring. Twelve equipes brought what they drive.

A roadbook sets the sequence. The cars set the pace.

ACT 2, THE WATCHES

The Rallyewatch, edition 2026. One ex*****on in this year’s red, made for one day in the Alps and one wrist afterwards. Alongside it, SIGNATURE ORNAMENT and LAB Series 1.24 as sample pieces on the wrists of the equipes, worn over gravel and hairpins for a full day and for some even well past the rallye date as their own. That is the intent. The watch disappears into the day and reappears in the photograph. The Rallyewatch was never listed and is not available through any channel. Each edition gets its own colour. Each colour exists exactly once.

A rallye is just a route on paper until the people arrive.

ACT 1, THE PEOPLE

Place de Neuve, Geneva, 1 September, before the city was awake. Twelve equipes, engines cold, roadbooks unopened, Rallye plaques still loose in the goodie bags.

Cars we had driven together with from the Netherlands, longtime friends and even some names we had only known from an inbox all lined up to explore the Alpine roads. By L’Observatoire the sample watches had changed hands, passed by Damiaen to wrists that had not worn a Holthinrichs before, Delicious deli sandwiches in an informal lunch setting and by Savièse the same people sat around one long table with dust still on the bodywork outside. One shared interest in things that are built well: watches, cars, roads. That was enough to start every conversation of the day.
Nobody described a the Holthinrichs watches as a product. They described which pass they had taken it over.

The Eclipse... dial.

Yesterday’s solar eclipse pulled out one of the Ornament Nouveau’s most elusive qualities. The dial answers to light on its own terms: darkening under direct exposure, clearing once it passes, and revealing its full character only in the moments it chooses. The same photochromic reaction doubles as protection, shielding the movement from prolonged light exposure.

This page went quiet. The work didn’t. Anniversary ahead, and it’s not a small one.

We are an independent haute horlogerie manufacture from Delft, creating watches as architecture on the wrist As we grow, we want to strengthen our in-house manufacture capacity without compromising the quality and precision independent watchmaking demands.

A hands-on role for an experienced watchmaker who works independently at a high level: assembling, adjusting, regulating and testing complete watches, and carrying out high-end hand-finishing alongside our senior master watchmaker.

You may be a strong fit if you work with precision, have a sharp eye for detail, and enjoy a small, creative and ambitious atelier. Experience with independent watchmaking, complications or small-series work is a strong advantage.

Welcoming Daan to the team during this summer!

Daan has a background in Aeronautical Engineering and is part of the finishing crew at Holthinrichs, who links his passions for engineering and horology on his wrist, rocking a Raketa Copernicus daily.

Off the bench, he is part of the Formula Student Team Delft, where hard work and relentless late nights pushed the team to third in the world, the largest student engineering competition there is. Construction, lathing, milling, and the upkeep of old motorcycles and cars round out a broad technical skillset.

For Daan, the appeal is simple: working on products built to outlast decades.
