This week, in honour of Samoa Language Week and its theme for 2026, I would like to share the inspiration behind our Malu Collection — a design that has been part of the Islandise journey from the beginning.

Three years before Islandise NZ was created, we travelled to Samoa in July 2019. It was during this time that I received my Malu. Looking back, I can honestly say that it was one of the most profound moments of my life.

For me, receiving the Malu wasn't just about cultural tradition. It was my calling. It was a moment where I felt accepted, not just by those with whom I have shared my life with, but by myself.

The Malu, highly regarded as a La'ei o Samoa, is an honour and a privilege to wear. It represents service towards my family and a sense of protection over them. It represents my ancestors and their legacy. It represents my faith journey and how God is my compass through it all.

Most of all, it reminds me of who I am and where I come from.

Inspired by a journey that will always hold a special place in my heart, I'm proud to highlight this week our Malu Collection.

A couple of years ago, my family and I travelled to Samoa and one of the best decisions we made was taking our Islandise tumblers with us.

The tropical heat was no joke, but having chilled filtered water with us all day, every day, made a huge difference wherever we went. 🌴💧

Looking back at this photo now, it reminds me that Islandise has never just been about drinkware. It's about the moments, memories, places, and people we share life with.

Whether it's a family holiday, a gift for someone special, or a reminder of home, it's amazing how something meaningful like our drinkware can become part of the journey. 🇼🇸❤️

🇼🇸 As Samoa Language Week approaches this coming Sunday, I’ve been reflecting on some special memories from our family trip to Samoa back in July 2024. ❤️

We travelled home for my mother’s family reunion and for my brother and I to receive our matai titles at Lano in Savai’i — a special journey filled with family, culture, connection, laughter, beautiful scenery, lots of coconuts 🥥😂, and moments we’ll always treasure 🥰.

These memories are a reminder of why Samoa — and the Pacific as a whole — continues to inspire so much of what we create at Islandise NZ. 🌺
