Despite being the hardest natural substance, diamonds can chip. Diamonds can be susceptible to chipping when exposed to hard knocks and sharp impacts. They are more susceptible to "cleaving", chipping or breaking where internal inclusions or fractures, particularly those that are surface-reaching are present.

Avoid wearing your jewellery while doing manual labour or activities where you would expect your jewellery to get knocked around e.g. the gym.

Choosing a diamond with a high clarity grade can also reduce the inherent risk of a diamond chipping. You could also think about a setting that protects the edges of your stone like a bezel setting, which covers the most vulnerable part of the stone.

At the end of the day, jewellery is there to be loved and worn so take care of your jewellery, but don't forget to enjoy it!

Mourning jewellery commemorates the loss of a loved one and expresses grief and remembrance. It has a long history and was particularly popular during the Victorian era in the 19th century.
Mourning jewellery comes in various forms, including rings, brooches, necklaces, bracelets, lockets, and earrings.
Some pieces also include hair work, where strands of the deceased's hair were woven or braided into the jewellery, like the locket pictured above.

The Olympus XRF analyzer is a piece of equipment we use on the regular that utilizes X-ray fluorescence (XRF) technology to analyze the elemental composition of various materials.

In the context of the jewellery industry, the Olympus XRF analyzer is commonly used for the non-destructive analysis of precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum, and their alloys.

It's one of the ways jewellery valuers like ourselves verify the authenticity and purity of precious metals used in jewellery.

Stepping back in time today with the Seikosha Tensoku-Dokei, a historical timepiece from WWII. ✈️⌚️

Produced around 1940, Seikosha supplied the Japanese navy with Tensoku watches. Seikosha marked the early beginnings of what would eventually become the well-known watch brand, Seiko.

While not specifically created for Japan's Special Attack Units, the Tensoku watch holds a special connection with pilots of the Mitsubishi A6M Zero, the primary Japanese combat aircraft used during WWII. These planes were infamous for their role in kamikaze attacks in the Pacific. It is likely due to this association that the watch earned the nickname "Kamikaze" and became a rarity among timepieces.

Often overlooked in discussions of military watch history, these rare pilot's instruments have now become prized collector's items, embodying a significant era in timekeeping and aviation.
