Q&A with Kristy ✨ Jeweller. Cat lover. Occasionally covered in grey filth.
🔨 How did you learn to be a jeweller?
I spent 2 years learning the basics of the trade at the Peter Minturn Goldsmith’s School. After that I finished my apprenticeship with on-the-job training at a couple of local Auckland jewellery companies.
🛠️ If your bench tools could talk what would they say about you?
‘Oi! I’m over here! Right where you left me!!’
🖤 What’s something people would be surprised to learn about your job?
Although jewellery is a luxury item, the creation of it is anything but. I usually go home in a thin layer of grey filth.
💎 If your personality was a gemstone what would it be and why?
A stone I’ve always been drawn to is ruby. Alas, though it may be my favourite, I don’t think it represents my personality. I’m thinking I’m best described as a salt and pepper diamond - imperfect, crepuscular and more of a soft glow than an outright sparkle.
☕ How many coffees are too many coffees?
I think 2 is a good number of coffees. There’s the reward without the consequences.
🍪 Favourite biscuit?
Tricky… I don’t really eat much sugar. I guess I am quite partial to an Afghan. Quite like a melting moment. Squiggle tops are pretty good. Rocky road mellow puffs are alright. Toffee pops are nice.
🐾 Cats or dogs?
Cats! Shout out to my cat Storm. My little ray of sunshine. But there is still a place in my heart for Marlo and Alfie (the resident JW hounds).
