Winter prep is clearly underway around here for Grace, Max, Rona and Trigger.
The horses have officially entered their “extra insulation” phase and are looking very pleased with themselves. Grass has been good, coats are coming through thick, and noone plans on missing a meal anytime soon. The grass on the ground is sufficient - just good old fashioned, letting horses be horses!

Today we celebrate Mums!!

The ones feeding out in the rain, checking fences before breakfast, bottle-feeding foals, calming nervous youngsters, and somehow still keeping everything running inside the home (and paddock) with love, patience… and usually a little chaos from the untamed youngsters they raise.

Here at Silverpeaks, Mother’s Day is also about the incredible mares who raise the next generation with strength, kindness, and instinct.

From the gentle giants, our Shires, to the spirited souls, our Arabians and crossbred mares. Every mare teaches us something about trust, resilience, and heart.

To all the hardworking mums, horse mums, grandmothers, bonus mums, our friends, and women who spend their days caring for others, we see you, and we appreciate you.

And to the little helpers covered in mud, horse hair, and feed dust alongside their mums… these are the memories that matter most.

Apparently Sapphire has officially entered her teenage phase 🙄😂
We measured her cannon bone and if the old growth calculation is anywhere near accurate… this girl may end up around 17.3hh 😳
She’s all legs and there's definitely a teenager hiding in there somewhere 😂
I’m pretty sure I got the full,
“Ugh, mum. Honestly.” look during this photo.
For such a big young horse though, she continues to surprise me with how quiet and sensible she is. She’s thoughtful, easy to handle, and takes things in stride far more than most yearlings her age.
Legs, fluff, mane, eye expressions, and growing into herself right now, but underneath the gangly yearling stage is a seriously impressive young mare in the making. Big, bold, quietly minded, and undercover beautiful 🫣💙. Under that long mane that is! 😉💝

You just can't ask for more than that from a young horse!! 🥰
With Mother's day weekend just around the corner, Mumsy has goals for horsey time - Sapphire will have her feet trimmed next and I may even put some gear on her.
When they grow big like this girl will, my personal philosophy is to get in early with their training. No weight bearing for a few more years yet of course.
