Hokitika_NZ Hokitika is the cool little town on the West Coast of New Zealand. Holidays like you used to have. Hokitika, cool little town.

Located on the West Coast of the South Island NZ, Hokitika is a great place to stay for a few days and have a holiday like you used to have...but with better coffee. Hokitika is the West Coast's only beachside town centre. View Aoraki/Mt Cook during the day and enjoy the sunsets over the Tasman Sea at night. You can wander around town, watch artists at work and find unique gifts. Talk to pounamu/NZ jade and bone carvers, photographers, painters, glass blowers, sculptures, wood turners, potters, jewellers, craftspeople, and metal, stone and textile artists. We've got a pretty colourful history as well thanks to the gold rush in the 1860s. You can experience the history with heritage walks, a visit to our museum and many local bush walks feature historical relics and information. Hokitika also has some great natural attractions and activities. We've got two lakes nearby, the beautiful Hokitika Gorge, the West Coast Wilderness Trail, fishing, kayaking and plenty of walks. www.hokitika.org

That turquoise though. The Hokitika Gorge is one of those places you see in photos and think "nah, can't be that blue" — but then you show up and it absolutely is. Dense podocarp forest frames the river, dramatic rocky walls rise up on either side, and that water? Honestly unreal.

Huge thanks to Kenny Lo for capturing this beauty. If you've got your own Gorge stunner or spotted something special around our patch, tag or use and you could be featured next 🌿

Tidal pools, driftwood art, moody West Coast skies—golden hour on the beach never gets old. There's something magical about catching Hokitika's creative spirit at dawn or dusk, when the sculptures cast long shadows and the light does all the work.

Huge thanks to for this stunning capture. Got a snap that shows off our Cool Little Town? Tag us or use to be featured next

That beautiful Art Deco frontage has been bringing people together on Weld Street for generations. The Regent's one of those places where locals and visitors find themselves without really planning it — just some quality cinema, live shows, good times, good food and a vibe that's pure Hokitika.

Massive thanks to whoever captured this gem. If you've got a snap of our cool little town that deserves the love, tag or use to get featured next

That weathered tambo at Sunset Point, silhouetted against the Tasman—it's part of Hokitika's story, a reminder of our wilder, working past. This moody West Coast light is what makes it so striking.

Huge thanks for this stunner. If you've got a snap that captures our cool little town, tag or use and you might just see it here next 🌿

That impossibly blue water? Completely real. Dense podocarp forest giving you that hidden valley vibe? Also real. This is Hokitika Gorge through the bush, and it genuinely does look this good.

Big thanks to Dirk Pothen for capturing this beaut — proof that sometimes the most famous spots are famous for a reason.

Window seat goals. The view from the Christchurch–Hokitika flight never gets old — those mountains framed like nature's own masterpiece at 10,000 feet. No filter needed.

Families weaving through native bush, ferns framing the track, and that cheeky little engine chugging right along? The Mudfish Railway at the Westland Industrial Heritage Park is peak Saturday magic — and look at those smiles.

Huge thanks to for capturing this gem. Got a photo that shows off Hokitika in all its glory? Tag or use and you could be featured next 🌿

Golden hour on Hokitika Beach hits different. There's something about watching the sun sink into the Tasman with someone you care about — no filters needed, just good light and better company.

Massive thanks to whoever captured this stunner. If you've got a moment like this (or any moment) from around our Cool Little Town, tag or use and you might just end up here 🌅
