Beautifully translucent and soft in appearance, yet incredibly tough to carve, Rodingite has a character all of its own. It’s often associated with strength, grounding, resilience, and transformation — which feels fitting for a stone that looks so gentle but works so hard under the tools. 💪⚒️

Nelson Pakohe, also known as argillite, is a stunning and incredibly durable stone found mainly in the Nelson region. It was prized by early māori for generations because of its toughness and ability to hold a sharp edge, making it ideal for tools and carving. ⚒️

Here at Precious Stone Pendants, we know that times can be tough and that a lot of people are doing it hard right now. So we wanted to do something to help lighten the vibe and share a bit of happiness.

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be giving away one of our locally made pendants every fortnight for the rest of the year. 🎆

These striking pieces showcases a natural contact zone between argillite and tremolite, sourced from the Nelson region. The contrast is what makes them so special—deep, moody grey argillite set against a soft, almost mint-toned tremolite, formed together over millions of years. 🪨

Argillite is a fine-grained stone prized for its strength and smooth finish. Tremolite is a calcium magnesium silicate mineral that forms under heat and pressure, often appearing along contact zones like this and creating beautiful natural colour variation.

While argillite can occasionally contain mineral inclusions, visible tremolite seams like this are not especially common, which is what makes these pieces truly unique. 🖤

On the left, the toki (adze) shape carries deep meaning. Traditionally used as a tool, it has come to symbolise strength, determination, and courage—often worn as a reminder of resilience and purpose. 💪

On the right, the heart shape speaks a more universal language—representing love, connection, and emotional balance. ☯️

Together, these two forms show both strength and compassion, carved from the very same stone.

It was an absolute pleasure to gift this pendant to the beautiful Angela Herbert (delivered by the lovely Debbie Nettleton) to offer her protection and strength on her road to recovery. ✨️

Back in February, Angela was unfortunately struck by a van that failed to give way while she was cycling. Since then, she has been facing a long journey toward healing and walking again.

Angela has already shown immense strength in everything she’s endured to date, and we know she’ll come out the other side even stronger. You’ve got this, girl! 💪💚
