As a child, I remember being fascinated with my mother's purse. Made of leather, so it smelled gorgeous, it had a flap which came over the front and fastened with press studs. But what was magical to me, was that it had three different compartments inside. Coins went in the first one, notes in the second one, and 'savings' in the back one. Later on she upgraded to a clip top purse, which had two compartments, but still had one section for 'saved' money - I remember this as being where the Christmas money was kept, from which presents were bought. It's no surprise to me that I readily adopted the idea of cash budgeting for Christmas. I have 3 envelopes - Food, Gifts and Stockings, and fill them with $5 notes I receive as change. Without thinking about it, I usually manage to set aside $750 a year across the 3 categories.
I have a selection of Christmas themed envelopes, in sets of 3, for you to start your own Cash Christmas savings. Some sets have a label area under the lamination, so you can use a black felt pen which can be rubbed off, the other sets come with a set of white labels that you can use. Each set is $7 plus postage.
