While in the gallery today I prepped some mannequins to look like corten steel. I wore my $5 jersey I found in an op shop during my artist residency in Brighton, UK. Every time I wear it, it reminds me of the incredible time I had 🧡

🌿 Kawakawa

There is something I love about the leaves of kawakawa. In rongoā Māori, the leaves marked with holes from insects are considered among the most potent, the marked leaves, not the perfect ones. I love the symbolism in that.

Kawakawa carries associations of healing, protection, care and remembrance. Its heart-shaped leaves are beautiful precisely as they are, holes, scars, irregular edges and all.

I’ve captured those beautiful imperfections in 99.99% pure silver, creating a kawakawa leaf to be worn close to the heart.

Perhaps a little reminder that the things that mark us can also become part of our strength. 🌿
