Three pieces can look identical in a photo and be worth very different amounts. Here is how to tell them apart. 💛

Solid gold — gold all the way through, in a stated karat. It never wears off, it can always be repaired and resized, and it holds real resale value. The most expensive to buy and the cheapest to own over a lifetime.

Gold-filled — a genuine thick layer of gold bonded onto a base metal core. Far more durable than plating; it can last many years of regular wear without wearing through. A good middle option for pieces you want to wear often without the full cost.

Gold-plated — a very thin gold coating applied over another metal. It looks the same on day one, and it wears at the edges and contact points over time. It has almost no gold value by weight.

Why it matters: only solid gold can be properly sized, soldered and repaired. Gold-filled and plated pieces can usually be re-plated by us to restore the finish, but they cannot be worked on the same way.

We do goldplating, electroplating and gold-filled plating here — and if you are unsure which one you actually own, bring it in and we will test it and tell you.

With custom work, you choose the design, the karat, and the stone. You can also bring in old jewelry — a grandmother's ring, or gold that no longer gets worn — and have it made into something new that you designed yourself.

Couples usually come to us about three months before the wedding. Earlier is better if you want engraving and a proper fitting.

Two names you will hear when you order a ring here. Here is the difference. 💍

Hong Kong setting — the stones sit low and close together, packed tightly so the surface reads as one continuous field of sparkle. Because the stones sit low, the ring catches less on clothing and takes daily wear well. It is the style most people picture when they think of a modern, densely set ring.

European setting — the centre stone is raised up on claws, lifted clear of the band so light passes underneath it. That is what gives a European setting its openness and depth. It is the classic solitaire look, and it shows off a single good stone far better than any low setting can.

Which to choose:
• One special stone you want to be the whole story → European.
• Maximum sparkle across the whole ring, worn every day → Hong Kong.
• Work with your hands, or worried about snagging → Hong Kong sits safer.
