Today, on 8 June 2026, an important meeting was held at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) on the visit of Her Excellency Ms. Ina Lepel, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by LCCI President Mr. Faheem ur Rehman Sehgal, Senior Vice President Sheikh Tanveer Ahmed, Vice President Khurram Lodhi, members of the Executive Committee, conveners, and representatives of the business community.

During the session, detailed discussions were held on Pakistan-Germany bilateral trade, investment opportunities, industrial cooperation, business relations, educational opportunities, visa facilitation, and the promotion of B2B connections. H.E. Ms. Ina Lepel reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to strengthening economic and trade relations with Pakistan. An interactive question-and-answer session with the business community was also conducted.

I had the privilege of attending this important meeting as Convener of the Gems & Jewellery Reforms Committee, Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry. The discussion proved highly productive and encouraging for enhancing trade and economic cooperation between Pakistan and Germany.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Vice President Khurram Lodhi presented a vote of thanks to the distinguished guest, followed by a group photograph with the participants.

Heartfelt Thanks to Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif

The trader community of Lahore sincerely thanks Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif for accepting the demands of the business community by extending market closing hours from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Furthermore, the operating hours of restaurants, hotels, and food outlets have also been extended by one hour, allowing businesses to remain open until 11:00 PM instead of 10:00 PM.

This decision is a positive and welcome step towards promoting business activities, facilitating traders, protecting employment, and strengthening economic stability. The trader community highly appreciates the Punjab Government, especially Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, for adopting a business-friendly approach and for listening to the voice of traders.

The reported implementation of the 0.90% Punjab Infrastructure Development Cess (PIDC) has raised serious concerns among traders, industrialists, importers, and exporters.

We respectfully urge the Government of Punjab to review this decision in consultation with the business community, chambers of commerce, trade bodies, and industry stakeholders. At a time when businesses are already facing significant economic challenges, any additional financial burden may adversely affect trade, exports, investment, and industrial growth.

A balanced and consultative approach is needed to ensure infrastructure development while safeguarding economic activity and business competitiveness.

Heartfelt appreciation to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Government of Punjab, Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), and the entire administration for the outstanding cleanliness arrangements during Eid-ul-Adha.

The timely collection and disposal of sacrificial waste, efficient management, and dedicated efforts of all concerned departments ensured a clean, healthy, and pleasant environment for the public. This is a commendable example of effective governance and public service.

Special appreciation to all sanitation workers and officials whose hard work made this possible.
