Title: Whispers of the Wild
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Size: 2x3 ft

My Journey and Inspiration:
This piece began with a reference image provided by an art collector, evoking the quiet majesty of a deep forest drenched in earthy tones. As I worked through the layers—building texture with a palette knife and sponge—what started as a visual study soon became something far more personal.
The painting took on new meaning through the biblical verse from Psalm 42:1: “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.” The deer, with its tender thirst, became a symbol of my own spiritual yearning—a longing for restoration, peace, and intimacy with the Divine.
Amidst the forest’s dappled light and textured trees, the deer find their place near the water’s edge—just as I, through brush and faith, sought a place of stillness and healing. This painting became my quiet prayer.
Creative Process:
Executed in oil, with the added dimension of palette knife and sponge techniques, the canvas holds a dynamic depth of foliage, bark, and water. I especially enjoyed capturing the interplay of light on the rocks, the flow of water, and the budding saplings that hint at life’s renewal.
Though I was initially uncertain about capturing the essence of the reference, the process became a journey of both technical and emotional growth.

My journey: It is my dream to live by the sea in a cliff house, and when I was commissioned, this dream became an inspiration. This piece was painted when I was going through the darkest dungeon of my life. Every ray of hope felt to be squeezed out of every inch of my body, heart, and mind.
I struggled to pray, and to call upon the name of the lord, and painting this calming scene was working like a therapy and working layer beneath layer of my wounds, betrayal, hopelessness, and chaos, all overpowering me. If it wasn’t a commitment to deliver it to the Art Collector for her friend’s housewarming party, I might not have been able to deliver it timely.
Description: The painting evokes a serene, reflective mood, the quiet rooftops nestled into the cliffside, overlooking the tranquil sea under a softly glowing sky. There’s a sense of stillness and gentle longing in it, perfectly aligned with my dream of living by the sea.
Bathed in the soft hues of dusk, Solitude evokes the dream of a home where the sea breathes life into stillness. With textured brushwork and delicate light, Monica Gill invites the viewer into a world perched on the edge of land and longing. The rooftops cling to a green hillside, bearing silent witness to centuries of waves, timeless, tender, and eternal.

"Hope, Optimism, and Delusion"
4x6 | Oil on Canvas

This painting holds a special place in my heart. I painted it after my father passed away, capturing the complex emotions I experienced during that time—hope in healing, optimism for the future, and the quiet delusion that somehow he would always be with me. The blossoms represent growth and renewal, set against a background that reflects both the chaos and calm of grief. It’s a piece that reminds me how closely hope and delusion intertwine, especially when navigating loss.
