Intensive, focused learning in one of the world's most beautiful cities: Porto. JWP - Jewelry workshops in Portugal aims at promoting jewelry making and technical excellence. We bring some of the world’s best jewerly experts and share our own passion, experience and technical expertise. All of this in a central location in the beautiful city of Porto, in a very well equiped studio. Participants from everywhere are welcome, combining the educational experience with exploring this beautiful country and discovering its rich traditions in jewelry making. Participants take more than technical knowledge: we become a creative community and we keep in touch. Always wanting more beauty, technique and time well spent. After a horrible pandemic, we can come back to being together, breathing each other's air and creative energy.

Working with stones is a world of hard tools on a hard material to get delicate results. A dialogue with an unusual medium for jewellers, more used to the metal and precious stones and their tools.

In this course you will learn the language of stones, their strenth, how to shape them, how to bind them to other material. How to apply that knowledge to other media.

And...

How to have big fun with big and small tools. We will make a mess! A big mess! Learn from it, but have fun in the process!

Where has time gone? I tell you where:

- Sandra Mcewen Cloisonné Jewelry workshop. Fantastic, with fantastic people and pieces of jewelry. No time for pictures, we were too busy making the most of it;

- hoarding on tools and supplies for enamelling. If your question is "don't you already have enough tools and enamels?", the answer is "NO". It's never too much... let me know if you want something, as I have enough for everyone!

- enduring a month-full of heavy rain and wind. It was most welcome, as we all need water;

- preparing for April;

- other things I will let you know later.

You will learn this technique and also a lot of other jewelry techniques in the meantime: wax modelling, soldering (mixed materials), patination, metal finishing. Ask me for details and come work with us at the studio.

So yesterday I was "catnapped" by my cats. Translation: they wanted to nap ON me, so there nothing I could do but nap with them too.

Today I am making serious arrangements for the enamel workshops. Plural, yes: Sandra McEwen's will start on the 17th, we will have a portrait workshop, eventually an animal paining workshop and a few contemporary and classical ones.

Plus filigree, wax and polyurethane modelling and stone cutting. So... let me get back to work...
