A Victorian coromandel and brass mounted stationery box - England - ca. 1880

A beautiful Victorian coromandel domed top box with engraved brass strapwork and dating to circa 1880.
Lovely colour and condition with original hinges and lock.

Measures 9.25 ins wide[23 cm] x 4.5 ind deep[11cm] x 6.5 ins high[17cm].

Do you Know?
During the reign of Queen Victoria, Coromandel was considered one of the most exotic, luxurious and expensive woods to work with and it was the veneer of choice for some of the finest boxes.
Coromandel wood was sourced from India and South East Asia and was an incredibly dense, close-grained wood. Visually a more vibrant and figured (patterned) variety from the Ebony family, the actual species of Coromandel became virtually extinct by the beginning of the 20th century. Today, the nearest relation to Coromandel is Macassar Ebony.

Very Scarce - Banco de Portugal 1000 Escudos 2-4-1965 - HB02698. ch9

A striking note featuring a representation of Dom Diniz (or Dinis) at right. He was Portugal's sixth King. Although he advanced Portugal in a number of ways, his prime concern was the rural infrastructure and that earned him the nickname Farmer King. His image is also featured as the watermark on this example. The vignette on the back illustrates the founding of the University of Lisbon in 1290. Pillar at left, Coat of Arms of Portugal at upper center, Dom Diniz engraved at right . He was Portugal's sixth King. This very scarce note is graded buy me in Fine / Very fine and will make a welcome addition to the winning bidder's collection.

An attractive Napoleon III kingwood parquetry cave liqueur - France - circa 1880

The condition is good for an item of this age with very few minor marks associated with its age and use. Wonderful shape with folding lid and side opening doors and with its working lock and key. The hinges are all engraved and may be silver although not hallmarked. The pull out center has four engraved decanters, one of which is a replacement with a different pattern but same stopper. All of are in good condition with no chips or damages.

There are 16 glasses of which five are original greek key pattern and two sets of six [one spare] of two different patterns but they fit and look fabulous.

The cabinet measures 14.5 inchess wide[37cm] x 11 ins high[28cm] x 11 ins deep[28cm].

As you can see from the photo's it has a wonderful colour and patina and great decorative appeal as well as being useful.

Regulating model sword from 1821. Curved blade, single-edged, with the brand of the manufacturer Coulaux Freres the Klingenthal, on the shoulder next to the guard. Brass guard with vegetal decoration. Pomo in the same metal of the guard and also decorated. Fist h***y matter with copper fligran. Traces of oxidation.
