Based in Portugal, Clay Mood Studio, V.N. Every shape, every color and every little detail is hand-made, self-designed and created with an intense effort, inspiration and love. In my work I use natural oxydes and experiment with the most unexpected materials, least used in a traditional jewelry. Coffee powder, hair, egg shells and other everyday life´s elements can create absolutely mind-blowing effects while mixed with oxydes. The chemical reactions produced during the firing in the kiln are always unique which means that you will never meet someone wearing the same piece of jewellery.

It has become almost a monthly tradition now - gathering around the big table to make nerikomi - Japanese ceramic technique - together. 🌙 And I’m so happy to welcome new people, including beginners, and show them how it’s done 🌸

I bring out all the different clays I have in the studio, we go through the basics of marbling them together, cutting, layering, mixing colours and creating patterns.

And then, maybe 20 minutes later, I look around the table and suddenly there are so many completely different patterns coming to life. This is probably my favourite part - seeing how everyone takes the same technique somewhere else. It’s always surprising and very inspiring.

At the end, we set the clay aside, and share dinner cooked by me, conversation, a glass of w**e or a mug of tea together.

I glaze and fire your pieces afterwards, and they’ll be ready to pick up in around 10 days.

Month that looked like a bridge between Summer and Autumn is over. We crossed it. On the bridge, the unbearable heat waves felt better as there was the underlying promise of the witches season coming. 🍀🖤

And it did! And we survived. Now we can wear hoodies and prepare heavy blankets for the cozy times 🦋🔥

🍂 TEA MUGS — CERAMICS WORKSHOP 🍵

7 October · 19h–21h

Autumn is officially mug season.

We’ll spend a cosy evening in the studio making our own ceramic tea mugs from scratch, drinking tea and working slowly with our hands.

You’ll learn the basics of handbuilding and choose the technique that works best for the mug you have in mind — slab building or pinch pot. You can make it tall, round, wonky, tiny or oversized, add a handle (or decide your mug doesn’t need one at all).

We’ll also paint our mugs with liquid slips, playing with colour, brushstrokes, patterns and simple drawings while the clay is still fresh.

No previous ceramics experience is needed. The idea is to make something personal, imperfect and very much yours.

After the workshop, I’ll take care of drying, firing and glazing your mug, so it will become shiny, functional and ready for many autumn teas. 🍵

Tea during the workshop is, of course, included.

October is the month when things start turning inward. 🌒

The days get shorter, the colours and the light change, we come back inside. Also back to warm wooden tables, candles, earth, autumn food, our hands and our old dreams !

This October at Duas Luas, our ceramic events follow that movement. I feel very aligned with this season, and I was craving it. 🖤

We’ll make tea mugs for homey evenings, play with earthy nerikomi, paint the plates we’ll eat from, spend Friday nights with clay and w**e, and close the month with Altar for the Witch — making ceramic Altar for our candles and herbs on the night of October 31. 🕯️

There is something deeply introspective about working with clay, but it doesn’t have to happen alone.

We sit around one table, sometimes we make things quietly, or we burst in laughter, we talk, drink w**e or tea, meet strangers, sometimes stay after the workshop and have dinner together.

A little community forming and changing, with wonderful, inspiring dynamics and versatility.

For sure that’s our autumn ritual: going inward, but doing it together. 🍂🌙
