16 months building G-EMZ β€” what I got wrong, what I learned, what's next
I've been working with gemstones for years β€” buying, evaluating, building relationships with suppliers, learning from people who spent their lives in this trade.

16 months ago I decided to turn that into a brand. G-EMZ.

Here's what I got wrong at the start:

I thought the product would sell itself.
Certified. Untreated. Fairly priced. Beautiful photographs. It seemed logical.
What I underestimated: in this market, trust is the product. The stone is secondary until the buyer trusts the source.

I thought volume would solve the problem.
More posts. More platforms. More automation.
What I learned: in a market where a single purchase can be €500 to €5,000, volume creates noise. Depth creates buyers.

What I got right:

Documentation.
Every stone certified by internationally recognized labs. Every certificate in my name. Full provenance on everything.

Stock quality.
I buy what I would keep. That filter matters more than any marketing strategy.

Where G-EMZ is going:

Focused on DACH market. Certified natural gemstones for jewelers, collectors, and investors who understand what untreated means. Physical stock in Germany. Free worldwide shipping with full insurance. No compromises on documentation.

If you work with colored stones professionally, or you're building a position in tangible assets β€” I'd like to connect.

Not to sell you something immediately. To build the kind of relationship where when the right stone arrives, you already know who to call.

What 'untreated' really means β€” and why it changes the math on gemstone value
If you're looking at gemstones as an alternative asset β€” not just as beautiful objects β€” there's one word on a certificate that changes the valuation equation entirely.

Untreated.

Here's why it matters beyond aesthetics:

Resale certainty.
A treated stone β€” even a beautifully treated one β€” carries uncertainty at resale. Re-grading labs may flag treatments differently. The market for treated vs. untreated at the top end is not the same market.

Insurance and appraisal stability.
Untreated stones appraise more consistently over time. The value isn't contingent on the quality of a historical treatment holding up.

Collector and institutional demand.
Serious collectors and estate buyers specifically seek untreated. It's increasingly a filter, not a preference.

For Tsavorite specifically β€” the untreated status isn't a marketing point. It's structural. The stone cannot be treated meaningfully. Which means every Tsavorite you see certified as natural is, by definition, untreated.

That's unusual in the colored stone world. And it's one of the reasons I focus on Tsavorite as both a jewelry stone and a tangible asset.

If you're building a position in physical assets outside financial markets β€” certified natural gemstones, particularly Tsavorite, deserve a serious look.

G-EMZ holds certified stock in Germany. All pieces ICA / IGI / ALGT certified, all in owner's name, all available with full documentation.

1.66ct Natural Tsavorite β€’ ICA Certified β€’ What the certificate actually tells you
This is a stone from my current stock in Germany. Let me walk you through what the certificate says β€” and what it means.

Species: Natural Grossular
Variety: Natural Tsavorite
Weight: 1.66 carats
Dimensions: 7.15 Γ— 6.28 Γ— 4.32 mm
Cut: Brilliant / Step β€’ Shape: Oval
Color: Green β€’ Transparency: Transparent
Treatments: None
Comments: None
Lab: ICA GemLab β€’

Three things worth highlighting:

"Treatments: None" is the most important line on this certificate. In a market where treated stones are standard, this is rare β€” and it's permanent.

ICA GemLab uses Microscope, EDXRF and Raman spectroscopy. This isn't a visual opinion β€” it's instrument-verified.

1.66ct in this color saturation is not common. Tsavorite production drops sharply above 1ct. Each step up in weight at this quality represents an exponential rarity increase β€” not linear.

The stone is available. If you're a jeweler evaluating it for a commission, or a collector who wants the full certificate details β€” message me directly.

I don't negotiate on price. I don't need to β€” the stone is priced at fair market value, not inflated to leave room for a discount.

Why a natural Tsavorite outperforms an emerald at the same price point
Most people comparing emeralds and Tsavorites are looking at the wrong thing.

They compare color. Sometimes carat weight.
What they miss is what's inside β€” or more precisely, what isn't.

The treatment question.

Over 95% of emeralds on the market are clarity-treated. Cedar oil, resins, polymers β€” all accepted in the industry, all disclosed (when the seller is honest), all affecting long-term value stability.

A natural Tsavorite garnet? No treatment exists. None. Not because the market hasn't tried β€” because the stone doesn't need it and the chemistry doesn't allow it.

What that means in practice:

β†’ A certified untreated Tsavorite is what it is. Permanently. No re-certification risk. No degradation over time. No uncomfortable question from a client 10 years later.

For a jeweler setting a stone in a piece that carries your name β€” that's not a detail. That's the foundation.

Tsavorites from Kenya and Tanzania are still undervalued relative to their rarity. That window won't stay open forever.

If you work with colored stones and haven't looked at Tsavorite seriously β€” it's worth 30 minutes of your time.

Happy to share what I've learned from working with certified specimens directly.

Because of their rarity, natural fancy colored diamonds are highly sought after by collectors and often appear in important jewelry houses and international auctions.

Tomorrow we will present a certified Fancy Colored Diamond from our collection.
