Carpe Diem has become part of the Konstantin Chaykin Manufacture’s rich heritage. Chaykin conceived the watch in the spring of 2013, inspired by 17th-century Dutch still lifes, including works he saw at Moscow’s Pushkin Museum. In vanitas paintings, skulls and hourglasses evoke mortality. Chaykin set out to translate this centuries-old allegory into watchmaking. On the dial, a silver figure of Chronos shares the scene with an hourglass that indicates the minutes. Moving shutters create the illusion of sand flowing between its chambers – a reminder that life is fleeting.
Модель «Лови момент» является частью богатого исторического наследия мануфактуры. Константин Чайкин оформил замысел этих часов еще весной 2013 года, вдохновившись голландскими натюрмортами XVII века, в том числе увиденными в Пушкинском музее. Череп и песочные часы в жанре vanitas напоминали о неизбежности смерти. Чайкин решил переложить эту старинную аллегорию на язык часового механизма. Так на циферблате появилась серебряная фигура Хроноса, а песочные часы превратились в минутный указатель: подвижные шторки создают иллюзию пересыпающегося песка, напоминающего, как быстротечна человеческая жизнь.

Cufflinks have long been an essential part of a man’s wardrobe. But Konstantin Chaykin has reimagined this traditional accessory, transforming it from a decorative piece into a functional mechanical device. Master of Days does more than complete an elegant look – it keeps track of the days of the week. Behind every pair of these cufflinks lies extensive engineering work, demanding precision and meticulous quality control at every stage of production. The process begins with a 3D model that allows the operation of individual mechanical assemblies to be tested. The finished cufflinks then undergo a series of tests on specialized equipment: water resistance is checked, durability is tested over 1,500 opening and closing cycles, and the torque required to advance the calendar is measured and compared with calculated values.

Но Константин Чайкин переосмыслил привычный аксессуар, превратив его из украшения в функциональное устройство. «Повелитель дней» не просто дополняет образ – он ведет счет дням недели. За каждой парой таких запонок стоит серьезная инженерная работа, требующая точности и тщательного контроля на каждом этапе производства. Сначала создается 3D-макет, позволяющий проверить работу отдельных узлов. Затем готовые запонки проходят серию испытаний на специальных приборах: проверяется герметичность, проводится ресурсное тестирование на 1500 циклов открывания и закрывания, измеряется и сверяется с расчетными значениями момент силы при переключении календаря.

Matroskin has always had his own way of looking at life – sensible, slightly ironic. He exudes an unshakable confidence: you can almost hear him getting ready to explain, once again, how to run a household properly, save money, and generally make life in Prostokvashino work. In the Matroskin Wristmon, Konstantin Chaykin preserves that instantly recognizable character while giving him a distinctly horological form of expression. The Manufacture’s signature anthropomorphic display feels particularly at home here: the cat’s eyes indicate the hours and minutes, while the moon-phase indicator forms a “smiling mouth,” bringing even more character to the familiar face. The model was created in collaboration with Soyuzmultfilm and released as a limited edition of 90 pieces.
У Матроскина всегда был свой взгляд на жизнь – рассудительный, слегка ироничный. Он излучает невозмутимую уверенность: кажется, еще секунда, и он снова объяснит окружающим, как правильно вести хозяйство, экономить и вообще устраивать жизнь в Простоквашино. В ристмоне «Матроскин» Константин Чайкин сохранил эту мгновенную узнаваемость, но добавил герою живую часовую мимику. Фирменная антропоморфная индикация здесь особенно органична: кошачьи глаза показывают часы и минуты, а индикатор фаз Луны превращается в «улыбающийся рот», добавляющий мордочке еще больше выразительности. Модель была создана совместно с «Союзмультфильмом» и выпущена лимитированной серией из 90 экземпляров.

Genius Temporis Blue Arrow and the rose gold Genius Temporis are two expressions of the same pioneering idea. The former has a restrained contemporary style, while the latter draws on the Renaissance aesthetics of early personal timepieces. Both share Konstantin Chaykin’s patented switchable display system. A single central hand indicates hours and minutes – visual simplicity concealing a sophisticated technical solution. Normally, the hand indicates the hours, but pressing the pusher at 2 o’clock instantly switches it to the minutes before it returns to the hour indication. The historic principle of single-hand time display was given new life through Chaykin’s invention – a mechanism switching between two scales.
«Гениус Темпорис „Синяя стрела“» и «Гениус Темпорис» в корпусе из розового золота – два воплощения новаторской идеи. Первый решен в сдержанной современной манере, второй обращается к ренессансной эстетике ранних персональных часов, однако в основе обоих лежит запатентованная Константином Чайкиным система переключаемой индикации. Часы и минуты показывает одна центральная стрелка – визуальная лаконичность скрывает сложное техническое решение. В обычном режиме стрелка показывает часы, но при нажатии кнопки у отметки «2 часа» мгновенно переходит к минутам, а затем возвращается. Так историческая идея часов с одной стрелкой получила развитие благодаря механизму переключения между двумя шкалами, изобретенному Чайкиным.

Every New Day Is in Your Hands!
In a mechanical watch, the calendar is controlled by the caliber. In Konstantin Chaykin’s cufflinks, the impulse comes from the wearer. Fastening the cufflink brings the mechanism to life and advances the indicator, turning a familiar morning gesture into a personal ritual of connecting with Time.
Visible beneath the sapphire crystal is the miniature A.01-1 movement with two jewels. At its center is a seven-pointed star wheel that advances the indicator by precisely one step. A mechanism normally hidden from view becomes both a functional component and the visual focus of the cufflink.
Each 18 mm case is crafted from lightweight, hypoallergenic titanium, with contrasting polished and brushed finishes.

В механических часах календарем управляет калибр. В запонках, созданных Константином Чайкиным, импульс исходит от человека, надевающего аксессуар. При застегивании механизм оживает, и указатель смещается. Так привычный утренний жест превращается в личный ритуал общения со Временем.
Под сапфировым стеклом взгляду открыт миниатюрный калибр А.01-1 на двух камнях. В центре – семилучевая звездочка, которая передвигает указатель ровно на один шаг вперед. Обычно скрытый от глаз узел становится не только функциональной, но и центральной художественной частью украшения.
Корпус запонок диаметром в 18-мм выполнен из легкого и гипоаллергенного титана, украшенного полировкой и шлифовкой.

Meet the iconic Twins of Atomic Heart!
In a striking end-of-year premiere, Konstantin Chaykin brings haute horlogerie together with icons of contemporary digital culture.
The robot ballerinas appear in two versions. The Left Twin is a black silhouette against a vivid red dial; the silver-toned Right Twin wears a cropped golden cardigan against graphite with a sunray pattern. Distinct guilloché designs bring out each Twin’s character.
An oversized moon-phase display takes center stage as the ballerina’s face. The star and the hour and minute pointers are made of synthetic ruby. Each version comes in a 40 mm titanium case and is limited to 69 pieces.

Боевые роботы-балерины предстают в двух версиях: черный силуэт Левой сочетается с насыщенно красным гильоше, серебристая фигура Правой, облаченная в укороченный золотистый кардиган, – вынесена на графитовый циферблат с узором в виде «солнечных лучей». Характеры Близняшек подчеркивают разные рисунки гильоше.
Главную роль играет крупный указатель фаз Луны, ставший лицом балерины. Звезда, а также указатели индикаторов часов и минут выполнены из синтетических рубинов. Каждая версия в 40-мм титановом корпусе ограничена тиражом в 69 экземпляров.

Nothing stirs the imagination quite like the illusion that the hands of the Levitas are floating freely across the transparent centre of the dial, with no visible connection to the movement. This effect is achieved through a single sapphire disc with a toothed rim, which drives both the hour and minute hands. The crescent-shaped movement is concealed behind the opaque section, preserving the clarity of the design. The moon-phase display is positioned at 3 o’clock, with the curve of its aperture forming part of the numeral itself. The contrast between the transparent centre and the solid outer section gives the watch a striking graphic quality while retaining a sense of near-weightlessness.
Ничто так не будоражит воображение, как иллюзия, позволяющая поверить, будто стрелки «Левитации» свободно парят в прозрачном пространстве циферблата, не имея видимой связи с механизмом. Этот эффект создает единственный сапфировый диск с зубчатым венцом, который одновременно приводит в движение часовую и минутную стрелки. Механизм в форме полумесяца скрыт за непрозрачным сектором, поэтому ничто не нарушает чистоту замысла. Указатель фаз Луны размещен у отметки «3 часа» и вписан в композицию так, что изгиб его апертуры становится частью цифры. Контраст прозрачного центра и лаконичной периферии придает часам графичность и сохраняет ощущение почти невесомой конструкции.

Konstantin Chaykin’s booth CODEX is open at the Contemporary Istanbul art fair, in the historic Tersane Istanbul complex.

The booth presents new artworks by Konstantin Chaykin: ‘Dormouse Dance’, ‘Time Struct 2’, and ´The Quest for Time’, alongside an exclusive limited-edition 12-colour ‘Wolf’ silkscreen print, the limited catalogue ‘Konstantin Chaykin: Archetypes of Time’, and the book ‘Konstantin Chaykin: Haute Horlogerie with a Russian Soul’.

The name CODEX points to the very principle underlying Konstantin Chaykin’s painting. ‘Codex’ means, at once, a manuscript, a body of law, and a system of writing with its own alphabet of circles and axes, its own syntax of divisions and symmetries, and an ever-expanding vocabulary. In the artist’s artwork, a component of the watch movement functions as the morpheme of this language: it holds the figure together the way brushstroke does for the Post-Impressionists, or the plane of colour for the Modernists.

The exhibition shows how the widest range of statements can grow from one and the same grammar, from portraiture to the Bestiary, from a single figure to an entire Universe of Horological Archetypes.
