I remember when I was doing bike tours in Moscow, the second most asked question by foreign tourists was: "Why don't people smile in Russia? Why do most people walk around so gloomy?" I then began to answer that it was due to the cold, that in Russia it is simply physically painful to smile for most of the year. Well, when I saw Canadians, Swedes, Norwegians, I came to the conclusion that it was not about the climate. And so I began to say that we don`t smile much, because every generation in Russia has been through a hell of a lot, like the War, which in most countries happen once in a century. And I showed by the example of my generation that in a short time we have already experienced perestroika, a shortage economy, prohibition, Chernobyl, the collapse of the USSR, default, terrorist attacks, covid. But I could not even imagine that a major f**k up was waiting for us ahead.
Помню, когда проводил велоэкскурсии по Москве, второй самый задаваемый иностранцами вопрос был: "Почему в России люди не улыбаются? Почему большинство ходят такие угрюмые?" Я тогда стал отвечать, что это из-за холода, что в России большую часть года улыбаться просто физически больно. Ну когда видел канадцев, шведов, датчан, то понимал, что дело не в холодном климате. И я начал говорить, что мы не улыбаемся, потому что каждое поколение в России пережило какой-то ПИЗДЕЦ, например Войну, а иногда несколько, которые в большинстве стран случаются раз в сто лет. И я показывал на примере своего поколения, что мы уже за короткое время пережили перестройку, сухой закон, Чернобыль, дефицит, развал СССР, дефолт, теракты, ковид. Но я представить не мог, что главный пиZдец ждет нас впереди.
