Lotus Arts de Vivre, a family-run Thai business, has been designing unique and distinctive handmade jewellery, objets d’art and home décor items for more than 30 years. In that time the brand has grown from a small boutique business into one of Asia’s most recognized luxury design houses. Founded and run by the Thai-German von Bueren family, the Bangkok-based company specialises in the use of natural materials to produce individual one-of-a-kind pieces that are instantly recognisable by their organic, often unorthodox, designs. Rolf and Helen von Bueren founded Lotus Arts de Vivre three decades ago in order to produce unique luxury jewellery items that were inspired by the rich culture and artisan traditions of Thailand and combined these centuries-old traditions with contemporary design. The company has built its reputation on creating imaginative individual pieces and eschewing mass production.

For Antoine Bakhache, esteemed collector, curator and connoisseur, his relationship with Lotus Arts de Vivre began with a first encounter, and grew through a shared appreciation for exceptional craftsmanship, distinctive objects, and the stories behind them.

Collector Archive — The Scarabs Collection

A material older than the house that shapes it.
Before Lotus Arts de Vivre ever touched a scarab wing, the material already had a life of its own. In the Thai countryside, iridescent wings were sewn into cloth and worn under candlelight, colour without pigment, kept alive for generations under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit's foundation for traditional craft.
K'Sri remembers the first time he saw one catch the light. He was still a child. Forty years later, he says he still isn't tired of it.

What makes a piece Collector Archive material isn't rarity alone, it's the labour hidden inside it. Every wing is a different size, a different shade of green-gold, and matching enough of them for a single piece can take months. LAdV uses the neck of the beetle as well as the wing, a detail almost no one else works with. Nothing is signed off as a design until K'Sri knows, by feel, that it can actually be built, not just drawn.

The final step is the one that never leaves the workshop. There is a way of preparing and setting each wing so it lasts, a technique refined, not written down, carried instead in the hands of the people who do it.
That's the quiet argument at the centre of every Scarabs piece: forty years of practice compressed into something small enough to wear. Not a trend. Not a season. A material with its own history, shaped by a house that inherited it rather than invented it.
