หนึ่งในมลทินสำคัญที่ช่วยบ่งชี้แหล่งกำเนิดของทับทิมว่าเป็นทับทิมจากประเทศไทย หรือที่เรียกว่า “ทับทิมสยาม” (Siamese ruby) คือ มลทินแผ่นฟิล์มบาง (thin-film inclusions) ซึ่งมักแสดงสีเหลือบรุ้งอันเกิดจากการแทรกสอดของแสง เมื่อสังเกตภายใต้สภาวะแสงแบบสะท้อน

One of the key inclusion features used to indicate that a ruby originates from Thailand, also known as "Siamese ruby", is the presence of thin-film inclusions. These inclusions commonly display iridescent interference colors when observed under reflected light.

"เพชร" อัญมณีประจำเดือน เมษายน สะท้อนถึงความบริสุทธิ์ ความแข็งแกร่ง และความงดงามอันเป็นนิรันดร์ โดยตัวอย่างเพชรนี้แสดงลักษณะตำหนิภายในตามธรรมชาติ ได้แก่ มลทินผลึกแร่ (crystal inclusion), มลทินผลึกแร่สีดำ (black mineral inclusion) และรอยร้าวขนาดเล็กภายในเนื้อเพชรที่เรียกว่า “Feather” ซึ่งลักษณะตำหนิเหล่านี้ล้วนมีผลต่อการประเมินคุณภาพของเพชร

Diamond, the birthstone of April, symbolizes purity, strength, and timeless beauty. The sample shown here exhibits natural internal characteristics, including crystal inclusion, black mineral inclusions and small internal fractures known as “feathers,” all of which play a role in diamond grading.

โดยปกติ ผลึกเพชรก้อนดิบมักมีรูปร่างคล้ายลูกบาศก์ (cubic) หรือทรงแปดหน้า (octahedron) อย่างไรก็ตาม ผลึกที่เห็นในภาพนี้เกิดการเติบโตเป็นผลึกแฝดแบบผลึกซ้อน (penetrative twins) โดยมีลักษณะเสมือนผลึกเติบโตทะลุผ่านกันจากจุดศูนย์กลางร่วมกัน ส่งผลให้เกิดรูปทรงที่ซับซ้อนและมีเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัว

Typically, rough diamond crystals exhibit simple geometric forms such as cubic or octahedral shapes. However, the crystal shown in this image displays a different growth pattern, known as penetrative twinning, in which two or more crystal individuals appear to grow through one another from a shared central point. This results in a complex and visually distinctive morphology with a unique structural character.

ผลึกทรงมนที่ปรากฏอยู่นี้ เป็นมลทินของกลุ่มผลึกเซอร์คอน (Group of zircon) ซึ่งถือเป็นลักษณะเฉพาะที่พบได้ในแซฟไฟร์จากมาดากัสการ์ โดยเฉพาะในแซฟไฟร์สีชมพู (Pink sapphire) อีกทั้งผลึกดังกล่าวยังคงมีความคมชัด แสดงให้เห็นว่าอัญมณีเม็ดนี้ยังไม่ผ่านการปรับปรุงคุณภาพด้วยความร้อน

The rounded crystals observed here are zircon crystal inclusions (group of zircon), which are characteristic features commonly found in sapphires from Madagascar, particularly in pink sapphires. The inclusions remain sharp and well-defined, indicating that this gemstone has not undergone heat treatment.

แซฟไฟร์สีส้ม (Orange sapphire) เม็ดนี้ปรากฏลักษณะตำหนิเป็นจ้ำสีน้ำเงินแทรกซึมออกมาจากมลทินผลึก หรือที่เรียกว่า “Blue halo” ซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในลักษณะตำหนิที่มักพบในแซฟไฟร์ที่ผ่านการปรับปรุงคุณภาพด้วยการเผาร่วมกับธาตุเบริลเลียม (Beryllium treatment) อย่างไรก็ตาม การยืนยันว่าแซฟไฟร์เม็ดนี้ผ่านการปรับปรุงด้วยวิธีดังกล่าวหรือไม่นั้น จำเป็นต้องอาศัยการตรวจสอบด้วยเครื่องมือวิเคราะห์ขั้นสูงเพิ่มเติม

This orange sapphire shows deep blue patch spreading from crystal inclusion, known as “blue halo.” These features are commonly seen in sapphires that have undergone beryllium treatment. However, confirming this treatment requires further testing with advanced instruments.

แซฟไฟร์ไร้สี (White Sapphire หรือ Colorless Sapphire) เป็นแร่คอรันดัมบริสุทธิ์ที่ปราศจากธาตุให้สี ส่งผลให้มีความใสและประกายที่โดดเด่น จึงมักถูกนำมาใช้เป็นอัญมณีเลียนแบบเพชร (Diamond simulant) สำหรับแซฟไฟร์ไร้สีเม็ดนี้ ภายในปรากฏมลทินลักษณะผลึกแร่ที่ยังคงมีความคมชัด ซึ่งเป็นข้อบ่งชี้ว่าอัญมณีเม็ดดังกล่าวไม่ได้ผ่านกระบวนการปรับปรุงคุณภาพด้วยความร้อน

Colorless sapphire (White Sapphire) is a pure variety of corundum without coloring elements, resulting in high transparency and good brilliance. It is commonly used as a diamond simulant. In this stone, distinct mineral crystal inclusions can be observed, indicating that it has not been heat treated.
