Garnets are a family of closely related minerals and they come in almost every color imaginable due to differences in their chemical makeup. Many garnets are actually blends of species—nature’s way of mixing a custom palette. Here are some of the best-known varieties across the color spectrum:

- Pyrope: Often occurring pink to purple-pink (and sometimes red), pyrope can often have a brighter, though less saturated color.
- Demantoid: A bright green garnet prized for its rainbow-like fire and famous “horsetail” inclusions.
- Mandarin (Spessartine): A fiery orange garnet with electric, vivid color, like sunset in a stone.
- Tsavorite: A rich, green grossular garnet that is highly sought-after in designer jewelry.
- Rhodolite: A beautiful mix of pyrope and almandine, known for its vibrant purplish-red to raspberry hues.
- Almandine: A fairly common red garnet, with a color range from orangey red through red to reddish purple.
- Color Change Garnet: A natural chameleon that shifts from cool hues (green or blue) in daylight to warm hues (red or purple) under incandescent light.
