Price reduced! Cartier Circa 1950s, created during the legendary era when Jeanne Toussaint served as Creative Director for Cartier Paris, leading the house's iconic animal and nature-inspired jewelry movement.
This piece is a vintage Cartier 18K Yellow Gold and Sapphire Turtle (Tortue) Brooch / Clip Pin. It is designed as a decorative brooch or lapel/dress clip. A sculpted tortoise/turtle—a classic figure within Cartier's mid-century whimsical fauna collections.
The lattice-work dome of the shell (carapace) is set with round-cut blue sapphires in wirework prongs, accented by cabochon sapphire eyes. Features intricate hand-chased wirework and textured gold detailing across the head, tail, and flippers.
The serial numbers, maker's marks, and signatures on the underside confirm its authentic mid-20th century origin. The flipper edge is hand-engraved with the serial number 01020C⁠. Cartier utilized unique internal stock numbers during this era to track workshop production, and private client logs. The lozenge-shaped stamp on the flipper contains the workshop mark of the specific jeweler. Additional small struck punches on the clip mechanism and feet (such as the French Eagle's Head tête d'aigle for 18K gold) confirm French manufacture and metal purity (750 / 18K gold).
Asking price is reduced to $5500.
