About Us

It all began in 1965 in Washington, Georgia, where Tena & Gene Corry opened the first Tena’s Jewelry in downtown Washington across the street from it’s current location. In 1977, Mrs. Amy Howard of Tignall, Georgia bought Tena;s from the Corrys and soon saw the need to expand and move across the street to the current location of the Tena’s in downtown Washington. In 1981, Mrs. Howard then opened the 2nd location in downtown Elberton, Georgia. Mrs. Howard has three daughters, Debbie R. Jackson, Sandra R. Brown and Jeana R. Worley, all of Tignall, Georgia. One by one, as each of the sisters finished college, they came home to work full-time for their mother at Tena’s. While in high school & college they each worked part-time for their mother at Tena’s. When Mrs. Howard passed away in 1995, after battling cancer, the three sisters took over Tena’s completely. Among the many things that their mother taught her children, they always remembered to live by these rules: Love & serve God and to work hard and work together. The sisters still live by these standards today. In 2001, the sisters opened their 3rd location at the former Seawright Jewelers in downtown Hartwell, Georgia. And then in 2009, they opened the 4th location in downtown Athens, Georgia at the former Foster’s Jewelers location. As each location expanded, the sisters continued with the same Tena’s name, carrying the same fine jewelry & gifts along with service that Tena’s has been known for since 1965.

All 3 sisters have taken extensive jewelry education courses throughout the years, along with diamond & gemstone courses & jewelry bench work & repair, jewelry appraisals & management courses. The sisters have long been community & church oriented with each serving in many volunteer capacities, believing strongly in giving back to their communities.
