π **BREAKING: SUBTROPICAL STORM JOSEPHINE FORMS β WINDS AT 65 MPH**
The National Hurricane Center has officially designated **Subtropical Storm Josephine**, the 10th named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. Previously identified as Invest 93L, Josephine has developed over the western Atlantic, several hundred miles off the northeastern United States.
π **INTENSITY & FORECAST TRACK**
Josephine is a large subtropical cyclone with an expansive wind field. Additional strengthening is forecast over the next 24β36 hours, with maximum sustained winds potentially reaching **80 mph by early Friday** as the system transitions into a powerful post-tropical cyclone.
Josephine is expected to turn northeastward Thursday and accelerate into the open North Atlantic, passing south of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. **A direct landfall along the U.S. East Coast is not anticipated.**
π **COASTAL IMPACTS**
Despite remaining offshore, Josephine's enormous circulation is already producing hazardous conditions across portions of the Eastern Seaboard.
Minor to locally moderate coastal flooding is occurring along portions of the Mid-Atlantic coastline, particularly around high tide. Gale-force wind gusts are also possible along portions of the northeastern U.S. coast through Thursday.
Large ocean swells will continue generating dangerous surf and potentially life-threatening rip currents along much of the East Coast and portions of Atlantic Canada.
