They first came to me through a referral from his mother, who lives locally. As active-duty military personnel, they have traveled extensively around the world, making it especially meaningful that they entrusted me with this project. Their wedding set had been designed and crafted elsewhere, and it was beautifully executed. More importantly, it suited her perfectly, both elegant and distinctive. There was only one concern: the accent stones were opals. I have a deep appreciation for fine opals, and despite their small size, these were exceptional examples with beautiful color and character. However, opals are not ideal for the daily wear that engagement rings and wedding bands typically endure. The very structure that gives opals their remarkable play of color also makes them more vulnerable to damage over time. The challenge was to find a replacement stone that would honor the original design they loved while providing the durability needed for their active lifestyle. Because they were living out of the area, we worked together through email and eventually scheduled a virtual consultation to review potential options. During our “show and tell,” one choice quickly stood out: genuine Ceylon blue sapphires. The sapphires proved to be the perfect solution. Their vibrant color complemented the design beautifully, and they fit the existing settings as though the ring had been created specifically for them. The result preserved everything they loved about the original piece while enhancing its practicality for everyday wear. The finished ring is both stunning and enduring, a beautiful balance of thoughtful design, meaningful sentiment, and lasting craftsmanship.

I have had the pleasure of knowing her for several years and have completed a number of projects for both her and her family over time. She has a wonderful sense of humor and is always a joy to work with. As she prepared to move and began the process of downsizing and simplifying, she rediscovered a few forgotten pieces in her jewelry box, including a single huggie hoop earring. Her initial idea was to recreate the missing mate with a minor modification to the closure for improved comfort and wearability. However, after exploring the options, it became clear that fabricating an exact duplicate would be prohibitively expensive. We also searched extensively for a matching single earring, but no suitable replacement could be found. Rather than replicate the original design, we decided to reimagine the piece entirely. Using the original diamonds, which were beautifully graduated in size, we created a delicate cross stitch stud earring that feels both timeless and modern. The result is petite, elegant, and versatile enough for everyday wear while still offering plenty of sparkle. To complete the design, I supplied new 14k white gold settings along with silicone-backed earring backs for improved comfort and balance on the ear. Transforming an incomplete or forgotten piece into something fresh and wearable again is always deeply satisfying, especially when the final design so perfectly suits the client’s style.

She first found me online and connected with the stories and sentiment reflected in my work. From her home in Florida, she initially reached out by email, followed by a thoughtful phone conversation about a very special piece of jewelry. The bracelet held tremendous emotional value for her. It had been handmade by her son when he was a little boy. Now grown with a family of his own, the bracelet had become a meaningful reminder of an earlier chapter in their lives. With an important family memorial approaching for her late husband, she wanted to be able to wear the piece once again. Her original idea was to recreate the bracelet entirely in gold or silver. However, after listening to her story and understanding the significance of the original piece, I felt the better approach would be to preserve the existing identification plate itself and incorporate it into a newly redesigned bracelet. In doing so, we could maintain the authenticity and emotional connection of the original creation while making it wearable again. I presented several options for chain styles and clasps, and together we selected a classic silver curb link bracelet paired with a toggle clasp for both comfort and ease of wear. The greatest challenge was preserving the original plate while preventing further scratching and wear. To protect it, I carefully coated the surface in a clear acrylic resin, helping to stabilize and preserve it in its current condition for years to come. Projects like this are a reminder that meaningful jewelry is not defined by the value of its materials, but by the memories it carries. Preserving those memories is often the most rewarding part of the work.

I have known her and her family for many years and have celebrated more than a few birthdays with her. As an October-born woman, opal is her birthstone, and over the years she had received many beautiful opal jewelry gifts. Like many cherished pieces collected over a lifetime, some of these designs no longer reflected her personal style or fit comfortably into her everyday wardrobe. She visited the shop with her daughter, and together we began the exciting process of reimagining these sentimental pieces into something she would truly enjoy wearing again. We started with several sketches and gradually refined the possibilities, focusing on a design that would suit both her lifestyle and aesthetic preferences. She wears her hair in a bob, which leaves her ears visible, and she loves drop earrings with movement. They're elegant and expressive, but never overly ornate or fussy. Ultimately, we embraced a “less is more” approach. Each earring features two opals, individually linked and suspended from delicate ear wires, allowing them to move gracefully with the wearer. As the light catches the opals, their natural play of color comes to life. The result is a pair of earrings that are simple, versatile, and full of character, honoring treasured gifts from the past while creating a timeless design she can wear and enjoy for years to come.

For this project, we worked with the same couple to create a second ring. One that more closely reflects her personal style. The design began with an existing ring (https://www.rweberjewelry.com/portfolio/moss-agate-makes-for-truly-unique-nature-inspired-engagement-ring/), which served as our foundation. She was drawn to the natural beauty of moss agate, so we retained it as the center stone while incorporating small diamond melee from her grandmother’s ring, adding a meaningful heirloom element to the piece. Her aesthetic is understated, tailored, and clean. This was an important consideration throughout the design process, which was thoughtfully guided by both her fiancé and myself. We selected a round moss agate and set it in a bezel, creating a continuous, unbroken circle that reinforces the simplicity of the design. Rather than using prongs like the CAD renderings, we refined the final piece by setting the smaller diamonds directly into the shoulders of the ring. This adjustment allowed for a more seamless and streamlined appearance. One of the advantages of CAD is the flexibility it provides to iterate and perfect a design before completion. As with the original ring we created for her, this piece was designed to accommodate a wedding band that can sit flush against it, preserving clean lines and a cohesive overall look.

This client came into the shop with a collection of pieces, a few repair needs, and a clear vision. Following the passing of her husband, she wanted to honor a marriage filled with love and meaning. Her wedding set held deep sentimental value, and preserving that connection was essential to her. In addition, she brought in an antique diamond wristwatch that had belonged to her grandmother. Although it was no longer functional, it carried significant nostalgia and family history. Her goal was to incorporate elements from both her wedding set and the heirloom watch into a new piece. Something elegant enough for a special family event, yet versatile for everyday wear. During the redesign process, I discovered an interesting detail: the watch bracelet was crafted in 14k white gold, while the watch case and lugs were platinum. This informed our approach moving forward. We carefully deconstructed the original pieces and supplied new white gold components to unify the design. We duplicated the engraved pattern onto new blank links to match the original bracelet. The centerpiece features a genuine oval sapphire, flanked by trilliant-cut natural diamonds, all set in 14k white gold. The bracelet itself incorporates an alternating pattern of sapphires and diamonds, using the available smaller round stones to create a balanced, refined design. The result is a meaningful transformation. One that honors her past while creating something entirely new. She was delighted with the finished bracelet, and it was a privilege to bring her vision to life.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with this client for quite some time. As a collage artist, her jewelry reflects her vibrant spirit and keen artistic eye. Recently, she began revisiting pieces in her collection, discovering several rings she no longer wears, but still deeply loves. Rather than letting them sit unworn, we collaborated on a thoughtful redesign. Our goal was to preserve the integrity and character of each piece by transforming the rings into pendants, using the original shanks (bands) to create custom bails. This process presented a unique technical challenge. Because the rings were originally handmade and assembled, and silver conducts heat exceptionally well, traditional soldering methods could risk damaging delicate stones. To address this, we utilized a modern advancement in jewelry repair: laser welding. This precise technique allows us to work on highly localized areas without exposing the entire piece to heat, ensuring the safety of fragile elements. The result was two beautifully reimagined pendants, each carrying the history of the original rings. Now they're ready to be worn and enjoyed in a whole new way.

I had the privilege of creating a deeply personal necklace using diamonds from her original wedding set (https://www.rweberjewelry.com/portfolio/loving-necklace-to-eternalize-widows-love). After finding love again with a wonderful partner, someone who cares deeply for both her and her son, and is equally cherished in return, this piece became a meaningful symbol of a new chapter. The three of us collaborated closely throughout the process. She shared her vision, while allowing him the flexibility to make the final design decisions. Together, they selected a lab-grown diamond, and I provided both the certification reports and video for their review. Although the project was completed entirely remotely, while they were in Texas and he was in Arkansas, we maintained clear and consistent communication at every stage. Once the diamond was secured and its precise measurements confirmed, we moved forward with the mounting. I presented several design options, and she expressed a preference for a low-profile setting with prongs to securely showcase the stone. The final mounting was selected and customized to reflect her aesthetic. After setting the diamond, the finished piece was carefully completed and shipped to Texas.

A new client came in with a very specific design request. As a graphic designer, his eye for detail and strong sense of design made him a pleasure to collaborate with. The fact that he arrived with renderings of what he envisioned was the icing on the cake. The piece he requested was a slip-on bangle: a two-part intertwined bracelet incorporating diamonds from an existing ring, originally envisioned in karat gold. He had very particular ideas about the wire profile and the overall shape of the bracelet. My initial estimate came out quite high, largely due to the need to special-order wire with the exact profile he wanted. During our conversation, I learned that his wife enjoys mixing metal tones and planned to wear the piece alongside two gold slip-on bangles. I suggested an alternative approach: constructing the bracelet in sterling silver wire while setting the diamonds in 14k yellow gold bezels. Using his renderings as our guide, we allowed the natural movement of the bracelet to determine the final shape and the placement of each bezel. To further highlight the contrast between the metals, we finished the silver with a soft satin texture and polished the gold bezels to a bright shine. The final result was incredibly striking. When they came in to pick it up, their reaction mirrored my own. She slipped it on and it fit beautifully with her other signature bracelets. Seeing how much she loved it was wonderful. I even received the suggestion that I should make one for myself. I just might!

I’m so grateful for this extraordinary woman. She’s talented, funny, thoughtful, and kind. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing her for decades. She used to visit the shop I owned with my dad and, with the biggest smile, say, “This is the happiest place in the world.” Fast forward to today, and she has taken her incredible design eye from the worlds of graphics and advertising into jewelry. She now creates her own beautiful line of sterling silver necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. I’m truly honored that she trusted me to collaborate with her on this special redesign and fabrication. We began with a meaningful pendant that belonged to her grandmother Rose. It passed to her mother Ruth, and is now Naomi’s. While she isn’t typically a pendant wearer, she loves rings. So we decided to transform this heirloom into something she would wear and cherish every day. We incorporated a ring design originally created by my father, Fil, subtly adjusting the curves so the paisley pendant would nest seamlessly into the setting. The largest diamond was reset from prongs into a bezel for a more cohesive and secure look. The pendant was carefully re-tipped and repaired as needed to preserve the integrity of the smaller diamonds. We completed the piece with a bright polish on the mounting, creating a beautiful contrast against the textured pavé center. And now she has herself a three-generation heirloom, thoughtfully reimagined into a ring that honors the past while celebrating the present.
