There comes a time when the hands that held you steady begin reaching for yours.
As our parents age, the roles slowly change. The ones who answered our endless questions may start asking the same question again. The ones who helped us get dressed, fixed our meals, and waited patiently while we learned may begin needing that same help and patience from us.
It can feel like the roles of parent and child are reversing. But they’re still our parents, with a lifetime of memories, sacrifices, and dignity.
When you’re tempted to rush them, remember how slowly you once walked. When you’re tired of explaining, remember how much they had to teach you. When they need reassurance, remember whose arms you ran to when you were afraid.
Watching them grow older can hurt. We won’t always handle it perfectly. But we can keep choosing gentleness.
Honor your father and mother through the way you speak to them, the time you make for them, and the love you show when they need help.
They once helped you face a world you didn’t understand. Now you can help them face a world that may be getting harder to navigate. ❤️
