May's birthstone is emerald. And if you've been waiting for a reason to look at emeralds properly, now's the perfect time to dive in.

Five stones: alternating emeralds and diamonds (all in an emerald cut), set flush in 18k white gold. The geometry is precise. The color earns every bit of attention it gets. Emeralds have been considered the stone of rebirth and spring across dozens of cultures for thousands of years. Looking at this ring, you understand why.

These aquamarine drops are the kind of earrings that do the work for you. Put them on, go about your day, receive compliments you didn't ask for. The milgrain detail on the halo gives them just enough vintage warmth to feel like they've always existed in your collection.

The color of our tulips may be fading outside, but we'll substitute their vividness with some new inventory, like these three Oscar Heyman pieces.

Top: A spessartite garnet flower pendant, a fiery orange-amber that looks like fall decided to become a necklace. Middle: a padparadscha sapphire with trapezoid diamond shoulders. Bottom: a vivid purple sapphire that is not messing around.

Oscar Heyman has been selecting colored stones like this since 1912. The standard hasn't moved, and neither has the result.

May is green. The flowers know it. The trees know it. And two of the gem world's most extraordinary green gems absolutely know it.

The halo ring: a chrome tourmaline surrounded by a diamond halo in yellow gold. Chrome tourmaline gets its electric, almost neon green from chromium (the same element that makes emeralds green), which gives it a depth and intensity that stops people mid-sentence.

The three-stone: a cushion-cut tsavorite garnet flanked by emerald-cut diamonds. Tsavorite was discovered in Tanzania in the 1960s, is rarer than emerald, harder than emerald, and has a color saturation that photographs beautifully and looks even better in person.

Two different stones. Two very different personalities. Both aggressively green in the best possible way. Come see which one is yours.

The May color palette belongs to blue. Sky blue. Forget-me-not blue. The particular blue of a well-cut oval aquamarine in a diamond halo that makes you stop at the case and say "oh."

Aquamarine is March's birthstone technically, but nobody told it to stay in its lane for a reason. The clarity, the color, the way a good stone handles light: it's a year-round gem.

In the case now. Come see it.

Spring is the most popular season for proposals. And we’ve been doing this long enough to know why. Something about longer days and the feeling that things are beginning again makes the moment feel right.

At Simms, we don’t keep a wall of pre-set rings. Instead, we sit down with you, learn about the person you’re asking, and help you find or build something that’s genuinely theirs.

If you’ve been thinking about it — this spring or otherwise — come in and start the conversation. No pressure, no timeline, just a really good conversation about a really important ring.

Mother’s Day is May 11th. We know. It feels early. It’s not early.

If you’ve been thinking “jewelry would be perfect” for someone on your list, now is the right time to start that conversation with us. Not because of artificial urgency, but because the best gifts come from having enough time to find the right one rather than the available one.

Come in this week. Tell us about her. We’ll take it from there.

What a Tuesday at Simms looks like: Jerry at the bench, working on setting a diamond into a martini setting.

If you have a piece that needs attention: a loose stone, a worn prong, a clasp that’s been giving you trouble, come on by. We’re here.
