🎪 Let’s Fest! 🎶

Festival season is here, and in South Louisiana, that means good food, live music, familiar faces and traditions worth celebrating. 💜

Our latest issue celebrates the people, festivals and stories that make our corner of Louisiana feel like home—from this year’s Rougarou Queen, Josephine Cassou, to the 10th anniversary of Acadia Music Fest and our annual guide to local fairs and festivals.

Band Shoutout!

We are excited to welcome Ga Greine back to our festival!

Celtic music from here to there and then to now. Ga Greine means “Sunbeam” in Gaelic and was chosen by the band to represent the reawakening of the Celtic traditions in a band consisting of multiple generations from Baby Boomer to Generation X and on to Generation Z Ga Greine blends the best of old and new, original and tradition ballads interwoven with tradition fiddle tunes from across the Celtic world. Charles Stacey plays guitar and is our lead vocalist and songwriter. His musical experience goes back to the 1950’s and 60’s and brings flavors of timeless folk music in the storytelling within Ga Greine’s originals as well as older traditional or from the new folk revival. Deb Yost plays all types of wind instruments including penny whistle, Irish flute, French flute and Galician giata (Spanish Bag Pipes). She began performing in the 1990’s with an emphasis on jazz and Latin inspirations and then began to connect with her Celtic heritage. Our youngest band mate, Abigail Baker, started playing the fiddle at age 3 and now at 13 brings a fresh perspective to traditional Celtic tunes. She also provides vocals on a few songs. Our newest addition to the band is Carl Freuden. Carl has been an integral part of various project with both Deb and Charlie over the past 25 years. He plays bass, electric guitar, percussion and sings harmony

Band Shoutout!

We are excited to welcome Tom Ward’s Downfall back to the Aztec Highland Games!

A blurb from this amazing group of performers: Traditional to the core, our Colorado-based band plays trad Celtic tunes and songs. When the four of us come together from all our disparate day jobs and play this music, something just clicks and we all feel it. That synergy brings together the Irish flute wizardry of Ed Webb; the brilliant, inspired intensity of our fiddler Ari Schermer; the fabric that ties us altogether, Erick Morningstar on his Irish bouzouki and Bodhran; and Danna Manganaro, percussion and vocalist doing the high sweet trad songs and a few romping cheeky ones. Our coming together to perform this music is organic; we perform Celtic trad dance tunes, jigs, reels, and a collection of songs from bands we love out of Scotland, Ireland and across the UK. We perform live in pubs, for festivals, fetes, games, private parties, and Contra dances -- a vibrant, appreciative group that we love. We seem to play to incredibly satisfied, enthusiastic audiences - every time. See you there!

Another band shoutout!

We can’t wait for Zia Chicks to grace our stage!

The Zia Chicks are an acoustic duo, made up of Cecilia Taulbee and Monica Leaming. Both women grew up making music with their families and have been singing for their entire lives. They first performed together publicly for a friend who knew they could sing and he encouraged them to perform at a private party he was having. They were so nervous to say yes because they didn't know if they had enough material to entertain his guests. They successfully performed about 20 songs at that first gig and received enough positive feedback that they decided to move forward with pursuing music making professionally. They took a full year to settle on the group name, Zia Chicks, which they feel represents their dedication to the Land of Enchantment and is also a reflection of their New Mexican pride. From there, gigs started pouring in and they thrive on continuing to learn and cultivate the list of songs they perform, including some of their own originals. They cover a wide range of genres and artists, coffeehouse style, for your listening enjoyment: Beatles, Sting, Elton John, Sam Cooke, Bonnie Raitt, John Prine, Brandi Carlile, Andy Grammer, Jason Mraz, Sheryl Crow and Duo Lipa to name a few. 1950’s-2026! The Zia Chicks are excited to perform for you!
