Most days I’m a silversmith. Today I’m apparently running a catering business for a bunch of men who willingly disappear into the woods for weeks. October is a special kind of ridiculous.

Creativity is personal. Making jewelry is so much more than putting silver and stones together. Every stone, every detail, every little idea comes from somewhere inside me. My imagination, my emotions, and sometimes the absolute chaos in my head.

Creating with your own two hands means putting a little piece of yourself out into the world. Not everyone will understand it or love it, and that’s okay. They aren’t supposed to.

Some of my favorite pieces started as ideas I wasn’t even sure I could pull off. Some worked, some didn’t, and some turned out better than I imagined.

So make the weird stuff. Take chances. There sure as hell isn’t a rulebook, and don’t let anyone steal the joy of creating.

Turning something that lived in my head into something someone else gets to wear? That’s pretty damn special.

See it. Love it. Buy it. Because “I almost bought that” is a sad sad story. 😂

It absolutely makes no sense until it does. That’s pretty much silversmithing in a nutshell. There’s always a method to the madness.

Fall looks better with a little western flair and a whole lotta turquoise.

Looking back at the things I was making in 2010 definitely makes me question some of my choices, but I’m still damn proud of that girl. She had passion, she had drive, and she just kept going.

I literally started with beads, epoxy and premade belt buckle blanks. I had no idea where any of it would take me. I just knew I loved creating and wanted to keep getting better.

So if you’re just getting started at something, don’t compare your beginning to somebody else’s 10 or 15 years in. Make the ugly stuff. Make the mistakes. Learn as you go and be proud of yourself for having the guts to start.

One day you’ll look back and probably wonder what the hell you were thinking too, but you’ll also get to see just how damn far you’ve come.

16 years later, I’m pretty damn grateful I started.

Had the opportunity to do a fun little smithing class with a couple of friends today! 🔨🩵

It’s always fun sharing the process and giving people a little peek behind the scenes. There’s a whole lot more that goes into creating a piece of jewelry than most people realize—and I loved getting to share a little bit of that today!

It’s truly an honor to be part of a tradition that means so much to our community. 14 years of creating sash pins/jewelry for the Benson Butterfield Rodeo girls, and it’s still just as special today as it was that very first year. I’ll forever be grateful for this one.

The reality of owning a small business…I wanted the freedom to make my own schedule.

So naturally, I chose to work every fu***ng hour of the day. 😂😜🤣😜
