Lullaby Links Precious Metal Jewelry for Wear with Babies My love for jewelry started with found treasures. I am excited about this new endeavor.

I collected tiny semi-precious pebbles on a local beach and found discarded copper wires from the telephone company and I peeled off the rubber coating. By the time my first child was born jewelry had become a huge part of my identity. My daughter broke so many necklaces in the first few months of her life but I could not bare to be without necklaces. I set out to make one that was strong enough that I could wear it while caring for her and wouldn’t be ruined if I absentmindedly stepped into the shower while wearing it. I made the first set of links that held up in 2010 (the year she was born). I wore the same two sets of links with several different chain styles for two or three years before coming up with a simpler design I could easily reproduce myself in the tiny dinette that became my makeshift office in our home in Pasadena. I posted some pictures that a friend had taken in a local parenting group and orders started pouring in. I quickly incorporated Lullaby Links and the rest, as they say, is history. I did not expect the links to have a soothing effect on my daughter or I when I initially started making them. I just wanted her to have something other than my nose for her to tug on and to be able to wear jewelry again! In the first five years of offering Lullaby Links I heard over and over again how the jewelry was not only soothing to the littles ones playing with them in the arms of their caregivers but also the adults wearing them! I have always personally sought out things with different textures and sensations to soothe my own nerves but I had no idea how common that was among other adults and children. In the end of 2018 I launched a second brand, Fancy Fidget, to focus on adults wearing the jewelry I make for soothing themselves! I see people using jewelry to fidget with all the time but having pieces that are made for fidgeting is both relatively new and still fairly limited. It also feels perfectly natural as my own kids and many of my original customers’ kids are no longer very little ones. Lullaby Links will always be focused on families with little ones and there are some designs that will remain exclusive to Lullaby Links but most of the design will be shared between the two. Each of the brands have their own shops and there are also special offers for semi-custom pieces that will be announced in the News sections of both websites as well as on the social media platforms. The brands also have a community group on Facebook called LLaFF & Chat and a secondhand sales group called Linklette Coop. We would love to have you in both groups and are always happy to answer any questions you may have there. Thank you for reading my story!

Screentime and online presence has been such a hard thing to navigate in my home and I know most of my followers are parents (many of teens and tweens) too. This is a podcast I often listen to and I appreciate Lisa Damour, Ph.D.’s books as well.

Nadine Burke Harris (nadineburkeharris) was a guest on this episode and I really related to and appreciated her family’s approach to the topic as well. I’ve read other work she’s done around trauma and was excited to hear her in contributing to the podcast.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and what is working for each of you in your homes if you’d like to share. 🩵

I was delighted to make a batch of matching earrings for a group of friends who have been gathering yearly for decades. Friendship is one of the richest things we have in life and I loved being a part of the celebration of their . It was wonderful listening to stories about their travels and the way that they are able to be vulnerable together as they are moving through different phases of life. These are lotus petal earrings to represent heart opening with drops of deep purple amethyst suspended inside. đź’ś

When I started this business I was a young mom with my first baby and creating Lullaby Links was my greatest aid. Today I am 45, inching in on 46, my kids are quickly barreling towards young adulthood and the youngest is just a couple years shy of becoming a full fledged teen. What I am facing today is so different and I have many times wondered how many moms who’ve come along with me on this journey are experiencing perimenopause, fibroids and other complications as I have been.

I feel so much gratitude for Linsey Davis of ABC News as well as each of the other ladies; Tamar Braxton-Herbert, Cynthia Bailey and soyinihawkinsmd who spoke on these issues. I truly believe this helps all of us to not be in these struggles alone and to understand how disparities are being experienced in our communities.

One of the people I love most in the whole wide world who I spend many of my days with turned 84 yesterday. I haven’t made a pair of earrings like this in years but she is so full of sunshine, warmth and unconditional love that I wanted to celebrate who she is with a pair. This is Watermelon Lemonade! This is a beautiful story coming from a beautiful book written by a beautiful mother and exactly the kind of positivity I needed in my life this morning.

The book would be a great gift to any household, library or school. 🩵

I remember visiting a school while on my first book tour and I didn’t know what to expect.

I take my family on these events because my kids require care that only myself or their father can provide.

We were worried that the students wouldn’t understand our boys, especially Aidan. Their time in school wasn’t pleasant.

Aidan was the only student in most of his schools that was like him. He was often alone. Isolated. And when he was brought into activities and classes with the other students, they didn’t know how to engage with him. Many were scared of him. Many were mean. And most just didn’t understand him.

The majority of them had not experienced someone with a disability.

He was their introduction.

When I pulled them from school, I knew that I wanted to create a space, resources, and products that would serve as invitation to an experience that many weren’t familiar with.

That is when I knew that I would place my advocacy on top of stories.

My boys have spent their lives being numbers. Statistics. I wanted to focus on who they were as people. And I wanted the world to know them whole.

We visited that school and everyone knew who my kids were. But they especially knew Aidan.

They called him by name.
They waved at him.
They smiled at him.

…and each class that filed into the auditorium had one or more students holding up an iPad to show us their communication apps.

These weren’t special education classrooms.
They were general education.

The school had purchased A Day with No Words for each of their classrooms and every class had one or more iPads so that not only could their disabled students use them when they needed them but also so that the general education students could as well. They were doing what I wanted them to do all along: find pieces of their life in which they felt that they could also use some assistance and connect that experience with my son’s.

We all get overwhelmed. We all have moments where words escape us. We all have those times when anxiety takes over.

And we also communicate without spoken words all the time. Through letters. Through gestures. Through text. Through pictures. Through reading.

They communicate like my son does, they aren’t unfamiliar with how he communicates. So, think of him in that way.

And this school did.

They used my book to normalize communication outside of speech. And they did it often and consistently.

By the time we visited their school, they knew. They were accepting. Accommodating. Caring.

They moved beyond my book to learn more about autism. To learn more about Nonspeakers.

And every question they had was about my Aidan. They talked about how they have a few Nonspeakers in school. How they made friends with them. And how they promised to be better people to them.

They said they also loved chicken nuggets and fries. Orange soda was also their favorite. They asked about the trees. They loved to spin in grass barefoot too. They wondered if the app they had was the same as Aidan’s. They wanted to know his hobbies. Did he get along with his brother?

This book is so special to me.
And it did more than I ever imagined it to do.

I am so proud that it will be back in print. I want every one to have a copy of the book that changed my life. That’s changing my son’s life.

It’s on preorder. And for premium and rewards members, Barnes and Noble is having a sale for 25% off PREORDERS RIGHT NOW! Check comments

This year just started off tough in so many ways and I haven’t posted any kind of sale for Valentine’s Day. I was thinking to put all the hearts on sale for the month of February.. I may still. What’s something you meant to do in 2025 that just hasn’t happened yet?

This is Fancy That (in Mixed Metal), I’m not sure if I ever added the anatomical charm We Got the Beat in the shop at lullabylinks.com but I can if there’s interest and the last one is a centerpiece I adore called Hearts of Confusion.

In honor of my sister on what would’ve been her 48th birthday.. my twin star and I. We weren’t twins but we were a sister duo and we moved through life like that. She understood me and advocated for me in ways I can’t even begin to describe.

I’ve been stamping Lullaby Links for somewhere around ten years with two teensy asterisks stars to signify the two of us. I tucked them along the edges of the backside of each set of links so they are very subtle.

My family is honoring my sister in sweet little ways this week and I’d love to see pictures of the twin star stamps if people can find them and think of her/us. I know there are many many pieces all over the world. Post in comments on Facebook or tag me in on instagram!
