Paying tribute to an iconic Grande Complication, Patek Philippe has created a jewelry version of its chronograph with perpetual calendar Reference 5271.

Since the launch of Reference 1518 in 1941, the perpetual calendar chronograph has claimed its place as one of Patek Philippe’s great classics.
In 2011, this timepiece sought after by collectors made news with the arrival of caliber CH 29-535 PS Q, designed and built entirely in the manufacture’s own workshops (Reference 5270). Today, two jewelry versions set with colored gems add their own luster to this refined mechanism.

The Ref. 5271/11P-010 stands out by its bezel, lugs and fold-over clasp set with 80 baguette-cut blue sapphires (5.16 cts) and its blue lacquered gradient dial shading to black at the rim.
The Ref. 5271/12P-010 bathes in the glow of 80 baguette-cut rubies (5.25 cts) set on the bezel, the lugs and the fold-over clasp.

Rolex Deepsea Challenge RLX Titanium 126067

There's a literary saying - never prod a sleeping dragon. When Omega came out earlier this year with their Ultra Deep to proudly proclaim that they now had a commercial watch that could go up to 6km deep, it was a direct stab to Rolex's Deepsea, which could only claim to reach a 'meagre' 3.9km. And so Rolex has now responded and is going bigger and even deeper, with the Deepsea Challenge with a depth rating of 11km deep.

And here's one more interesting observation - Rolex has finally made a titanium watch. To all the naysayers who've never quite liked titanium when it was used by Grand Seiko, I sincerely wonder what your thoughts are now. I suspect there will be a fan-boys which will now proudly proclaim titanium being the next greatest thing since sliced bread.

So who really needs a 50mm case diameter dive watch that can go to the depths of 11km deep. I'm really not the target market, and serious dive enthusiasts have told me they'd rather use dive computers to save their lives than a mechanical dive watch is really only a relic of the past. So clearly this is a flex by the house of Rolex.

But if you are one of the niche few who just have to have this - just pay attention to the price. It's USD 26,000 at RETAIL. Some DEEP thoughts will be required on this, don't you think?
