The Freya shield design was sparked by a close friend, another mother, who asked me to create a custom jewelry design. She was advocating for her child who was being bullied.
She wanted a talisman that she could wear close to her heart, a symbol to channel her strength as she protected her son.
As a long-time advocate for my child, I understood her struggle immediately. The fierce need to protect this vulnerable being that you love fills you with instinctive strength.
A year before, I visited the in Stockholm and saw their exhibit on . These women were real life warriors, celebrated and respected for their power.
Their iconic shields inspired the motif of the Freya design, with historic Viking runes carved into the surface to symbolize needed.
