Bialo Padin Designs

Bialo Padin Designs Bialo Padin Designs specializes in handmade jewelry, accessories, and tools. Commissions are welcome I am a Brooklyn-based metalsmith.

I make and design hand fabricated jewelry and accessories, using silver, gemstones and other materials. I also do custom work, designing and making fine jewelry, using gold and gemstones for special occasions. Because I am also an avid knitter, I make accessories and tools specifically for the fiber community, including shawl pins and handmade cable needles.

Day #6: 17.49 (!) miles, Rocamador to Le Bastide-Murat. Not our favorite day. Basically it was a slow and steady ascent (80 flights according to my friend’s Apple Watch), much of it on tarmac, gravel or small rocks (perfect for twisting ankles). But we made it, and our BnB host is lovely. And we have arnica ointment and Advil…

Day #5, our “rest day”. We walked only 12 miles, from Gramat to Rocamador. Our favorite walk this trip (so far). We walked through forests, fields, along a river (past the remnants of medieval mills), slid down muddy paths, scrambled over rocks. In other words, lots of variety, and ever changing views. Fueled by multiple espressos, we then ditched our backpacks and hiking poles and climbed the countless steps to the chapels of Rocamador, which are built into the cliffs, What glorious views!

Conques to Livinhac. Our Camino has recommenced. We walked about 15 miles today, fog turned to sunshine. Lots of spring flowers and herbs. The air smells of chamomile in some places. Birds and insects sang. It was glorious!

And on to the next adventure! The Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival is in the rear view mirror. It was a great show, so we celebrated by going out to dinner. All current orders have been processed and mailed, sales taxes have been remitted, inventory has been updated. I’ll be working like crazy in the studio this summer to build up my stock for Rhinebeck. But first, my friend Ellen and I will be continuing our walk along the Camino in France, picking up where we left off - in Conques. What with recent health issues, I’ll be moving a little slower, but we will be walking about 150 miles. I am so looking forward to being outside so that I can admire spring flowers, clouds and elegant cows. Oh, and the joy of strong coffee, good food and the company of a friend I don’t see often enough. Depending upon internet availability, I’ll post photos. Chris will take advantage of my absence to record some music. And, bless his heart, he has offered to wipe down all of my dust covered show displays. All orders will be processed as soon as I return on May 21st. is going

We’d like thank the organizers, volunteers and sponsors (not to mention our lovely customers and fellow vendors!) for another wonderful show. Every pleasant conversation, every appreciative comment about my work warmed my heart. Seriously, the fiber community is the best!

We are driving back to Brooklyn this morning, and in 2 days I’ll be wearing my nifty woolen MSWF baseball cap as I walk 150 miles on the Camino in France with my friend, Ellen. On my return, I’ll be feverishly at work in the studio, replenishing my stock. Let me know what you’d like to see in my booth the next time our paths cross. Some of you had ideas for new tools I should design and make. And for those interested in wholesale orders, I can probably put together some before the end of the summer. So, send me your suggestions and requests: [email protected].

In the meantime, my inventory and Etsy shop will be updated by this evening: https://bialopadindesigns.etsy.com. My Portuguese knitting pins are available on my EBay store.

Allergies and lack of sleep meant I didn’t take as many photos as I usually do, but here are our tired faces and some happy customers.

Until we meet again!
Deirdre (and Chris, who provided the muscle, the music and general support; I couldn’t do this without him!)

And the 53rd Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival comes to an end. I’ll be spending the summer re-building my stock. Nearly all of my hairpins walked away tucked in folks’ hair. Basically, I need to make more of everything. There were more repeat customers today. Someone bought one of my steel vine bracelets. One woman decided to splurge and treat herself to one of my sterling silver leaf and vine penannular brooches. One of her favorite ewes passed away recently, and friends gave her a shawl made from the ewe’s wool, so she was looking for a special shawl pin. Several customers bought gifts for friends and family. Lots of pleasant conversations with customers and fellow vendors. A few people want me to design some new tools. A yarn shop owner is interested in a wholesale purchase. The only thing I regret is that I didn’t have enough time to visit the animals. But all in all, despite low temperatures, high winds and whirlwinds of dust coating everything (everything, I mean everything, will have to be swiped down, and all display tags replaced; it is all because we brought a shovel - last year there was a deluge and we needed a shovel to create canals directing the water away from our booth), it was a great event. Vendors and customers enjoyed Chris playing the mandolin. Really, the fiber community is the best! They are just lovely folks.
