After diamond, emerald is the second most precious stone found in Afghanistn and some countries of the world.

Afghan emerald is unique in the world due to its transparency. After countries such as Brazil, Columbia and Zambia, it is the fourth exporter of emeralds. What makes Afghan emerald unusual is its excellent clarity. Most emeralds, even quality emeralds, have surface cracks, but Afghan emeralds are usually exceptionally clean and, despite their small size, are of very high quality.

Afghanistan's emerald mines are located in the heart of the Panjshir Valley and the Hindu Kush mountains, 100 kilometers northeast of Kabul, at an altitude of 3,000 to 4,000 meters. You can access the mentioned mines only on foot.

172 small and big emerald mines have been discovered in Panjshir Valley so far. Afghanistan's emerald mine was discovered for the first time in 1970 by a Russian geologist.
