A topaz unlike any I’d seen in decades.

From the Hindu Kush Mountains.
Full of blush. Full of light.

We traced this rare colored gemstone all the way from
the rough crystal…

watching it transform, facet by facet,
from raw earth into something extraordinary.

She found it through my Private Collector’s Group,
where I share rare gems and behind-the-scenes sourcing before they’re offered anywhere else.

Over thirty years in the international gem trade.
This is what that brings you.

What’s the gem you’ve been waiting to find?
Tell me in the comments.

At first, none of it worked.

Just a Paraiba…and a scatter of diamonds.

Moved.Turned.
Left.Returned to.

And then…they begin to gather.

Like a few scattered notesfinding their way into a rhythm.

This is the nature of bespoke jewelry.

Letting something take formthat wasn’t there before.

I loved my 1990’s - the gem business then was full of adventure - I did boldly go, learning on the fly and gaining confidence. Looking back, I shouldn’t have worried whether it would all work out. What were yours like?

Recently, I gathered a small group of my jewelry collector clients and we traveled by train up the coast to Los Angeles to step inside Unearthed: Raw Beauty at the LA Natural History Museum.

We moved from ocean light…to treasures formed deep within the earth…
Guided by my friend, the inimitable Monica Kitt of , we moved through rooms of extraordinary mineral specimens,

Stories, origins, moments of discovery.

Somewhere along the way, something else unfolded.

Only a few of us knew each other that morning.
By the end of the day, that had changed.

It was the women.
Each one distinct…gathering, shifting, connecting -like colors combining in chords.

Later, around the lunch table, bespoke jewels made their way from hand to hand.
Admired. Felt. Shared.
A beautiful instinct.
A quiet generosity.

Thank you, Monica, The Arkenstone, and , for opening this world to us.

Blue.Yellow.Green.

All in one sapphire.

I bought this sapphire years ago in Sri Lanka, before buyers were looking beyond blue sapphires.

The cutter arranged the facets so the colors mingle and flash green.

Now finished in a bespoke ring for a collector client.
9.99 carats, pavé set with tsavorite and blue sapphire.

(Ignore the nails - I work with stones :)

Some moments aren’t meant to be rushed past.
They’re meant to be marked.

Inspired by Torii gates seen at Shinto shrines in Japan,
these Torii rings were shaped to honor life’s passages …
graduations, births, achievements, quiet shifts,
and the spaces between who we were and who we’re becoming.

Jewelry has always he helped us remember
who we are,
and who we are becoming.

Jewelry can be a marker.
A pause.
A way to step forward awake.

If this stirs something...
about a moment you’re marking,
or one that’s coming into view.
Reply TORII, and I’ll share more with you.

First, don’t be interesting.

Traveling with jewels is an exercise in ego.
The release of it, that is…

A few weeks ago, I slipped through the airport invisible…
Not the “Have Jewels, Will Travel” sparkle woman.
More of the persona of a “mature” woman, bag stuffed with grandkids’ photos and sugar-free mints.

Invisible.

Safe in my client’s home,
everything warmed.

Dogs circling.
Eggs with Spanish chorizo.

Stories rising from her jewelry — family sagas, love affairs, a few glamorous surprises.

Soon the dining table vanished under sketches, pearls, heirlooms, and the gem she’d been dreaming of.

These are the moments I love — when jewels open the door to something deeper.

On our last night, we threw on pearls and colorful rings,
gathered friends,
and ended the evening in an iconic Bakersfield Basque restaurant…

You’ve been there…a place where conversation drifts from life,
to jewels, to laughter, as if they’re all part of the same fabric.
(They are.)

This kind of intimacy doesn’t start overnight.
it grows over time.

And it always begins the same way:
A small reach,
A spark of “what if…”
A conversation about the jewel
that keeps nudging you.

One way we get to know each other is through my
weekly email letters.

They’re not “normal” jewelry emails…
People tell me they read them 18 times…
some say they cry…
and more than one insists I should’ve been a poet :).

If you’d like to read more stories like this — the ones I share with my private list — comment LETTER and I’ll send you the link to join us.

The light in Munich had its own rhythm—
warm against copper, cool over stone.
A city built on layers of time and care.

Walking its streets reminded me
how beauty rests on what we rarely see…
time, trust, and a thousand unseen hands
shaping the things that endure:
jewels, craft, design and the artistry of fine gems.

Some weeks shine brighter than the rest.

This one was filled with collectors, conversations, and jewels that seemed to hum with life.

From the mine to the sea, sketches to soirées, every stop was a reminder…
the treasure is the jewels ✨ and the company we keep.

This is what I love most about working with my Collector’s Private Reserve—curating not just gems, but experiences.

Because true collecting isn’t transactional… it’s transformational.
