Today is one of my favorite days of the year — Winter Solstice.
Rather than focusing on it as the shortest day, we celebrate it as the turning point.
The moment when the light begins to return, and each day after grows just a little longer.
If we allow it, this day offers a welcome pause in the midst of holiday chaos.
I know this season can feel stressful for so many. I can feel it — the rush, the obligations, the overstimulation — especially as I continue to deepen my meditation and energy practices. It’s easy to get swept up in it all. I do too.
So today, I’m making a conscious choice to slow down.
To do less.
To be present.
There are many ways to honor the solstice, but for us, it’s beautifully simple. We wake up and wish each other Happy Solstice. We take time to reflect on the meaning of the day. We make a cozy, uncomplicated dinner.
And our favorite part — we light a fire on the deck.
We gaze into the flames, sip something warm, and soak in the quiet glow. Often, we reflect on how this day may have felt for our ancestors — imagining the feasts, the gatherings, the shared warmth of fire — not so different from how we sit together now.
We feel especially grateful for the modern comforts that hold us through winter, even as we honor the ancient rhythms that still live in our bodies.
Today, we choose to be still.
To move slowly.
To step outside and remember our place in nature.
Wishing you a gentle Winter Solstice and the soft return of light. 🤍
