I am not sure how to talk about this so I will jump right in. First, I want to start off saying thank you to everyone who chose to shop with me this weekend at both Renegade Craft and Ravenswood ArtWalk
My husband and I had fun meeting everyone. I also want to thank one particular vendor for being so kind and patient with me at the Renegade Fair. I apologize I can not recall her business name but it is partially in this photo.
However, after my experience this past weekend for the Renegade Fair I will no longer be collaborating with other small businesses for markets.
Just to put it frank, my boothmate at the Renegade Fair was incredibly disrespectful and condescending. I have never in my life experienced such blatant disrespect. She is an artist who traveled from New York to Chicago and came unprepared for an outdoor event and requested that I cover her travel expenses in exchange for bringing a tent. This is obviously a very odd request especially since I was bringing the tent weights making it an even exchange. We further discussed this while at the market but she continued to request money. This artist sales images of the Black female body as a non Black person while disrespecting the very women she appears to admire. There is something to be said about that.
Needless to say, my short experience at Renegade was dampened which makes me incredibly sad to say because Renegade has always been a joy for me.
Im am just writing this to make others aware of my intentions that I will no longer being collaborating with other businesses for markets. I apologize if this comes off weird but I will no longer tolerate that kind of behavior.
I will continue to sell my product via consignment at the local shops posted in my bio.
Thank you!
