HELLO SPOOKY SEASON. I blinked, and September faded away into the prettiest month of the year. Swimsuits, hit the bench; hoodies and leggings, you're on deck! So let's heat up the mulled apple c***r and see what's coming up!

Hillary Starpants will be headed back to the most favorite of hangouts, The Empty Bottle, with Handmade Chicago for their October Market! Join me and over thirty makers on Saturday, October 10, from 11am-3pm. Grab a brunchy drink and a slice of Pizza Friendly Pizza and come hang out! It's never too early to get a head start on searching for that special, one-of-a-kind gift (or be like Donna and Tom - treat yo'self).

Annnnnnnd that's a wrap on Ravenswood ArtWalk!

Mighty thanks and many hi-fives go out to those individuals who made this weekend such a success: the Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce and their team of event organizers, Koval Distillery, the generous and talented booth neighbors, friends who swung through to give support or beverages, and the many new visitors who took time to chat with me about art, jewelry, the lake, food, cool tee shirt designs, beach glass, Pride, winter hobbies, and our gorgeous city. It is hard to put into words the gratitude I feel toward everything that went down this weekend.

But hey, we ain't done yet! The prettiest colors of the year are about to make their debut, then it will be the spooky season, then the foody day, then the holidays - and many more opportunities to come to the market!

Rest up, Fest up! I know I can't wait.

Welcome to September! One of the finest months of the year. It's where summer takes its final bow and autumn preps the stage for the next opening act. Where my most cherished beach days left in the season will end, and the electric tendrils of creativity and inspiration crackle with activity, plugging into the cosmic shift of "back-to-school". It's when this little singing grasshopper puts on her worker ant boots, rolls up her sleeves, and moves back into the studio. Folks like to do Spring Cleaning, and I'm all about Autumn Organizing - because once we are all indoors for the next several months, having a functioning workspace is going to be crucial.

But before the big cool down begins, there are still some warm days on deck! So here's what's coming up!

Hillary Starpants will be at the Ravenswood Art Walk: Tour of Arts & Industry next weekend, September 12th and 13th! Join us for a weekend-long celebration of this amazing creative community: open studios and galleries, pop-up performances and demos, and an outdoor arts market featuring 80+ local makers; including live music, b**r garden, kids activities, food trucks, and more.

Koval Distillery will be opening their doors to host some indoor vendors, and that's where I'll be showcasing the latest new jewelry designs, Pride jewelry collection, and beaded plants! Come by for a hi-five, and stay for many experiences this art walk offers. This is my first year participating with RAW, and honestly, it feels like homecoming weekend for the art nerds and patrons everywhere.

Sometimes a commission comes along that feels like you've been given a little gift. If you live in or near Chicago, you might have visited The Holiday Club a time or two. Or perhaps you glimpsed the venue in passing, its shimmering gold and silver awning catching the eye and inviting you in. When the Irving Park location closed its doors for the last time in Spring, it felt like another end to an era. But a friend thoughtfully salvaged a bagful of the glittering silver and gold foil scales from the pile as the signs were coming down, and asked if I could fashion a few of them into some earrings as gifts for his partner and her bestie. Hell yeah!

It took about a week of overthinking the design, experimenting with the layers, even trying a bit of resin cast (and abandoning that idea until more XP is gained) before coming full circle on a layout that let's the glittering scales do the "heavy lifting" and hopefully evokes how it looked when they were aloft in the open breeze. I couldn't help but be taken back to my own memories of hanging out at the club, a blur of nights spending my weird and wild late 20s/early 30s all about town under the glow of time well spent.

I'm so pleased with how these two pairs of earrings came out and I love the way they glitter and shine with every movement. It was one of my favorite projects to be gifted with making, and it makes me happy just to be able to touch a piece of Chicago's history.

Many thanks to everyone who joined us at Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest this past weekend. The sheer number of visitors who took time out of their day to chat with me and to friends who came out and showed their support, I am beyond thankful for all of it. I hope my arty peers who had booths all did smashingly well! There was so much to take in - the talent, creativity, music, and dedication to making this one of the best fests in Chicago is deeply felt. This has quickly become one of my favorite markets and I can't wait until next year.

A special thank you to Kio Kreations | Kristen Janes , Pigeon Brain Studios LLC , Intermezzo Designs Jewelry and Cliff Etters - this maiden voyage outdoor multi-day market adventure would have looked entirely different were it not for your generosity and your time. I hope I can come through for each of you in the same way.

There's still a lot of summer left to enjoy and I'm here for it.

It's the night before Go-Time and I'm taking a quick pause to thank the rain gods for their abundant attention to our little corner of the world all summer, the plants and trees are soooooo happy, but could they please turn off the cosmic faucets for a few this weekend? I hope everyone will keep their eyes on the skies and find that pocket of sunshine to come on out to Glenwood Ave Arts Fest! I'm so thrilled to be part of this three day gathering of creativity and community. The artist count? Almost 170. The live music? Two stages, back-to-back jams all weekend. Foodstuffs? YES. This is a great time to celebrate the arts, and get a little arty yourself!

Hillary Starpants will be showcasing the latest beaded jewelry, including new stone & glass pieces, new items in the Pride Collection, and a few beaded potted plants!
