🌸 **Making a Difference, One Label at a Time!** 🌸

Today was a special day at M.A.C.! We had the pleasure of meeting **Kristen and Zack Herrmann, owners of City Roots Nursery in Kansas City, Missouri, and seeing firsthand just how important our clients’ work is to their business. 💚🌱

Our clients help prepare nursery pots for the beautiful flowers that will eventually grow in them! City Roots Nursery provides the pots and labels, and our clients carefully apply each label to get the pots ready for the next step in the growing process. 🌷

What may seem like a small task plays an important role in helping City Roots Nursery do what they do best. Even more importantly, this partnership provides our clients with meaningful work, opportunities to build their job skills, and the pride that comes with knowing their work matters. Every job has a purpose, and every opportunity helps build confidence, independence, and a sense of accomplishment.

We are incredibly grateful to Kristen and Zack for trusting our clients, believing in their abilities, and providing them with the opportunity to contribute to a real business. Partnerships like this remind us why we do what we do. When businesses see the value in employing people of all abilities, the impact reaches far beyond the job itself. We are incredibly grateful to have had State Senator Brad C Simon and Representative Aaron Pilkington stop by and spend time with us at M.A.C. 💙 Also thank you to DDPA Arkansas - Developmental Disabilities Provider Association for helping get this scheduled.

Their visit meant so much to our staff and, most importantly, to the individuals we serve. We truly appreciated the time they took to learn more about our mission, our goals, and the work that happens here every day.

They took the time to visit with our clients, hear about their experiences, and see firsthand the skills they are building as they work toward greater independence and meaningful opportunities in their community. They also spent time with our Administration discussing the challenges and issues we face and the needs of the individuals and families we serve.

What made their visit especially meaningful was their willingness to listen, ask questions, and genuinely learn.
Having our elected leaders take the time to come through our doors, meet the people behind our mission, and understand the impact of the work we do is something we deeply appreciate.

Thank you, Senator Simon and Representative Pilkington, for your time, your interest, and for taking the time to learn about what makes M.A.C. so special. We are grateful for your visit and for your willingness to hear our stories and understand the needs of those we serve. 💙

✨MORE THAN AN ACTIVITY✨

A LITTLE PAINT, A STRAW & A LOT OF CREATIVITY!

Our artists got to experiment with abstract art using diluted paint and straws!

This activity may look like simply blowing paint around the page, but there’s actually a lot happening behind the scenes!

Cause & Effect — What happens when I blow harder? What happens when I change the direction? Our artists get immediate visual feedback from every choice they make.

Breath Control — Controlling the amount and direction of air adds another layer of coordination to the activity.

Fine Motor Skills & Hand-Eye Coordination — Holding and positioning the straw while watching the paint move encourages coordination and control.

Visual Attention & Tracking — Following the paint as it travels across the page encourages focus and visual tracking.

Decision Making & Problem Solving — Artists have to decide where to place their next drop of paint, which direction to blow, and when their piece feels finished.

Creativity & Self-Expression — There’s no right or wrong way to create abstract art! Each person gets to experiment, make choices, and create something completely their own.

And maybe the best part? They get to have fun while learning and creating. ❤️

Art isn’t just about the finished product — it’s about the skills, choices, experiences, and confidence built along the way.
