Here at Kind Find, safety is our absolute #1 priority. The most influential factor that affects the journey of healing and maintaining a piercing is the quality of the jewelry worn inside. There are many different levels of quality of body jewelry, and we pledge to only offer our clients the best of the best. But what makes jewelry safe, and what makes our jewelry different from other piercers and retailers?
As members of the Association of Professional Piercers, all of the jewelry we carry is tested and verified to be implant grade. As an APP verified jewelry brand, we submit our jewelry samples for this testing process. So let’s dive in to what that means:
1. The Metal Alloy
Every piece is X-ray tested to make sure it’s free of harmful metals such as nickel, zinc, lead, and cadmium.
2. The Surface Finish
Our jewelry is polished to a mirror-smooth finish, meaning no tiny scratches or pits can trap bacteria or irritate your piercing.
3. Secure, Sealed Design
Our jewelry comes in multiple interlocking pieces that seal tightly, keeping the piercing clean and secure.
Because of these factors, implant-grade jewelry can be worn indefinitely without causing irritation.
Non–body-safe metals can cause:
• Itching
• Irritation bumps
• Discoloration
• Migration & rejection
• And in extreme cases, metal toxicity and cancer
We carry titanium, niobium, 14k gold, and 18k gold that meet these strict safety standards.
⸻
Is Gold Plating Safe?
Gold plating is not body safe.
Plating eventually wears off, leaving behind a rough, uneven surface that can harbor bacteria, even if the base metal is decent.
⸻
What About Solid Gold?
24k gold is the most biocompatible metal, but is far too soft for everyday wear on jewelry. Many 14k and 18k gold earrings sold in traditional jewelry stores still contain nickel or other harmful alloys. When worn inside the body, even tiny amounts of these metals can cause problems. It’s best to buy any solid gold body jewelry from a piercing-centered business to ensure the safest quality.
⸻
What About Surgical Steel?
“Surgical steel” is a marketing term, not a metal testing standard. It is not implant grade or considered body-safe for new or healing piercings.
⸻
Is All Titanium Implant Grade?
No.
To be implant grade, titanium must be ASTM F-136 and polished to a mirror finish. Without the polish, it’s not safe for a piercing.

How to Shop Safely:
Choose jewelry from APP-certified studios or verified brands listed on safepiercing.org.
Avoid big retail stores and online sellers offering cheap “mystery metal” labeled as hypoallergenic or surgical steel. If it seems too good to be true—it usually is.
Prioritize your safety and your body. Invest in quality, not quantity.
