Quick update and first off a congrats to my client Dan on landing a thick springtime trout on a “Purple Drank” Coastal Brew 6” Dart! Fish was released in great shape and a good time was had!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted—life has been nonstop lately between guiding and also hosting the events. Bittersweet to see it all wrap up, but huge thanks to our anglers, sponsors, and staff for making it another record-setting year and congrats to all the winners!!

Next up: Texas Troutmasters is right around the corner. Early entry deadline is this Friday, April 17th, with the tournament set for April 24th–26th at Doc’s Seafood and Steaks.

After that, we roll straight into Legends in Lace for our lady anglers, happening May 28th–30th…also at Doc’s.

Busy season has been in full swing—but plenty of great fishing ahead!!

My calendar is now open thru Sept 1st…all trips are wade fishing with lures only!!

High pressure, post-frontal conditions, the back side of a full moon, and floating spider webs… we had all the cards stacked against us.

We fished hard all morning, managing a few solid trout over the 5-lb mark and bigger. Just as we were about to head in, I decided to make one last stop—only because the major feed period was just beginning. That’s when everything came together for client Russell.

The “Gringo” Soft Dine by Custom Corky sealed the deal on this one.

Russell told me more than once that his only goal was to someday catch a 30” trout and after decades of fishing up and down the Texas Coast, we were able to make it happen—a 31 1/8”, 9.25-lb fish of a lifetime.

Congrats again, Russell! Well earned and well deserved. 👊🏻

Wow… 3,000 Instagram posts, and the times have sure changed.

Almost 30 years ago when I started this career, it was all about full limits of trout, redfish, and whatever else we could throw in the box. That’s what separated one guide from another. Today, it’s a much more conservative—and respectful—approach, and I’m proud of how this industry has evolved.

I’ve never been a fan, as a guide, of posting photos of myself holding a fish. It paints a different picture than the one I want out there. To me, true success is posting clients with their personal-best trout, or sharing photos and videos of them with great fish—doing exactly what I’m here to help them do!

But for my 3,000th post, and to kick off year 30 of this career, I’m posting the most recent photo of myself so you truly know how much I appreciate every single one of you. Clients, sponsors, followers, fans, family, and friends—thank you all for the support over the years.

I once heard a quote that has always stuck with me:
“We are not defined by our successes… we are defined by our regrets.”

When I look back, I have my share—as a guide, father, husband, teammate, friend, and leader. Life as a full-time guide isn’t easy, but it is incredibly rewarding.

Here’s to 2026. Wishing you all a Happy New Year.
