COUDERSPORT ICE MINE IN THE FALL - FREE ADMISSION SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10

If you've wondered what the Ice Mine is like in the fall or never visited before, please be our complimentary guest and stop by this Saturday.

The Coudersport Ice Mine and Ice Mountain Trail will be open on Saturday, October 10 from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Right now the weather for the day looks great. There will be no cost for admission.

With the falling temperatures our ice is all but gone, but the mountain remains beautiful this time of year with the rustling winds and falling leaves.

FIRST FROST - THE ICE MINE KEEPS GETTING WARMER

We had a frost earlier this week in Potter County. As expected with the colder weather, the Ice Mine temperature kept getting warmer. Today's internal temperature is 34.0 degrees which is the highest it has been all year. There are now puddles of water at the bottom of the mine. The ice continues to melt and will recede into the loose shall below.

If this is a typical fall season, it should get to 38 degrees over the next 4-6 weeks and it will all be gone.

NIGHTS GETTING COOLER - THE ICE MINE GETS WARMER

All summer long the interior temperature of the Ice Mine stayed between 31.3 and 31.7 degrees.

We have had some cooler evenings in Potter County and - as expected - the temperature is going up in the mine with a current temperature of 33.3 degrees. (It generally will top out at 38 degrees in the fall )

The ice should all be gone in a few weeks.

THAT'S ALL FOLKS!!!

On behalf of the Buchsen Family, Sharon Haskins, Jayden Widmeier, Kensey Majot, Steffi Buchsen, and Jackie Ness, we'd like to thank all of our guests who visited or followed the Coudersport Ice Mine during the 2026 season.

We had a record year with visitors from all 50 states and 40 countries this summer.

This was the thirteenth season since the restoration and reopening of the Ice Mine by Gary and Diana Buchsen. Restoration began in July of 2013 after a closure of nearly a quarter century, and concluded with the reopening to the public in May of 2014.

We'll look forward to seeing our new and returning guests Memorial Day weekend in 2027.

We sincerely appreciate all of support. Thanks again!

FINAL DAY VISITORS

We were so pleased to have Stacy Hurt, Emmett Hurt, and Nya Feinstein with us on the last day of the season.

Early birthday wishes for Emmett who will be turning 21 next month.

Thank you for stopping and safe travels as you head back to Pittsburgh tomorrow.

ICE MINE RAINBOW EFFECT SEPTEMBER 2, 2026

When you catch direct sunlight penetrating through the Ice Mine generated fog, you can see a mini-rainbow above the mine. This doesn't happen very often.

We captured a few glimpses of this late today.

ICE MINE FOG SEPTEMBER 2, 2026

Most of the ice is gone for the season as we head into September, but there's still cold air left in the mountain. The internal temperature was 31.5 degrees today.

Combined with the warm humid air from the morning's thunderstorms, the mine was making fog. This video was shot at the end of the day.

ICE MINE CLOSING

The Coudersport Ice Mine will be closing our 2026 summer season on Sunday, September 6.

We'll be open from 10:00am to 5:00pm Wednesday through Sunday this week.

All of our crewnecks, hoodies, and zipped jackets will be marked down to $25.00.
