How do you clean your jewelry? NOT with toothpaste! This is a myth!

I think almost every person in this room as heard this “tip.” Using a soft toothbrush IS a great way to clean jewelry, but using toothpaste is not!

Toothpastes by their very nature have abrasives in them, and chemicals for whitening or tartar control or the dreaded gingivitis! Any of these can damage your jewelry. Don’t do it! And tell everyone you know, don’t do it!

So what DOES work?

At Masterpiece Jewelers we use a mixture of 1 part hot tap water and 1 part sudsy ammonia. Emphasis on SUDSY! And then we let it soak until the water cools. Scrub afterwards with a soft toothbrush, and repeat is necessary.

We also recently started carrying a life-changing foaming jewelry cleaner called Lavish which is fantastic! My sister Traci calls it “Fairy Dust” because it makes your jewelry sparkle so much! We’re happy to clean your jewelry for free anytime at our store.
