Starfish Custom Design Handcrafted bracelets in my Etsy shop! All net proceeds go to the Global Medical Relief Fund (GMRF) to help children injured by war or natural disaster!

Starfish Custom Design is an online Etsy shop (http://starfishcustomdesign.etsy.com). You'll find several styles of bracelets for sale, all of them handmade by me and made with a cause in mind! My shop was created for two main reasons; a creative outlet for me of course, but also to give back. When I learned about the Global Medical Relief Fund (GMRF) I knew I wanted to do something to help. By re

opening my Etsy shop (some of you may remember my old shop "Southern Accents Jewelry"), I'm hoping to spread awareness of the work that GMRF does and also provide a way for people to join me in helping them mend children's lives! Net proceeds from my shop go directly to GMRF! Each of my pieces are named after a child who GMRF has helped. The piece is shipped with an info card explaining that child's story as well as info about how you can help! The story below has been around for ages and many versions have been created, but the main message has remained the same. GMRF has adopted this story as the driving force behind their cause. Enjoy ;)

The Starfish Story
A young man is walking along the ocean and sees a beach on which thousands and thousands of starfish have washed ashore. Further along he sees an old man, walking slowly and stooping often, picking up one starfish after another and tossing each one gently into the ocean.
“Why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?,” he asks.
“Because the sun is up and the tide is going out and if I don’t throw them further in they will die.”
“But, old man, don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it! You can’t possibly save them all, you can’t even save one-tenth of them. In fact, even if you work all day, your efforts won’t make any difference at all.”
The old man listened calmly and then bent down to pick up another starfish and threw it into the sea. “It made a difference to that one.”
