We got final confirmation, and I can officially announce that on November 4th, K State is bringing their surgery trailer to El Dorado to help us TNR up to 80 cats in our community!
We are excited to partner with K State and local volunteers to tackle a growing problem in our community.
A few important things to understand about this event:
This is NOT for owned cats. This is NOT to address a nuisance concern right this minute. This is about population control.
We have brought over 150 kittens into the shelter this year from the streets. Not from someone's home, where they have a family caring for them, but from the streets, where they are being born into a world of uncertainty. We cannot keep up with the number of kittens being born, and we want to take action to address the problem at its source.
Spaying and neutering community cats is one of the most effective ways we can reduce the population over time.
November 3rd: We will be trapping cats at multiple locations throughout town and bringing them to our staging area.
November 4th: K State will provide spay and neuter surgeries, along with vaccinations, for up to 80 cats.
November 5th: After recovery and once the cats are fully awake and ready, they will be released back to the areas where they were trapped.
These cats are not being collected for adoption. Every cat trapped for this event will be returned to the area it came from. The goal is to reduce the population humanely and prevent future litters.
We will be working off of our trapping list we have had this year to be able to finish it out.
If you or someone you know is feeding a small colony of feral cats. Call the shelter to get on the list. Each cat will be spayed/neutered, ear-tipped, and vaccinated (rabies and FVRCP).
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Do you have a live trap you would be willing to loan us for this event?
We are looking to borrow live traps from citizens to help us safely and efficiently trap cats for this event. Every borrowed trap will be labeled with the owner's name and phone number so we can make sure it gets returned to the right person.
If you are willing to lend us a trap, please reach out to El Dorado Animal Shelter at 316-322-8844.
We cannot do this alone. It takes a community willing to come together and be part of the solution. Whether you help us with a trap, share this post, or support our efforts to control the community cat population, we appreciate you!
