Town Creek VFD has not closed. Our chief posted that because it’s happening more and more to local volunteer departments. Do what you can to support your local volunteer departments. Even the smallest contribution can help. Whether it’s financial, equipment, or your time there are so many ways to help.

This is what happens with communities don't support their local volunteer fire departments. I don't care if they are selling sardine sandwiches you should support your local fd. If you don't agree with the leadership join the department and change it.

In a lot of Texas counties, the fire truck and the ambulance roll out of the same building. Sometimes the same person is driving both, on different nights. 🚒

The overwhelming majority of fire departments in Texas are volunteer, and out past the city limits those same departments often carry the emergency medical calls too. There is no second crew waiting down the road. There is a pager, a bay with the lights left on, and a handful of people who agreed to answer it. What you see in this photo is the whole plan.

What that really means is that somebody's alarm goes off at three in the morning, and they get up, and they drive to a stranger's worst night, and then they show up to their regular job at seven. The equipment gets paid for with plate sales and raffle tickets and a barbecue in a church parking lot every spring. ⭐ Nobody in that station is doing it for the money, because there mostly isn't any.

If you grew up in a small Texas town, you knew which neighbors would come. You knew their trucks before you ever knew their titles.
