I guess it’s appropriate that I finished these just in time to post them on May Day! Reviving my love of loom work has been really fun and rewarding. I am delighted with these finished products and hope to make more, but they are pretty time-consuming, so I am not positive about that.

The oversized safety pins, a nod to the solidarity they were meant to represent after trump was first elected, are 3” long. The beadwork itself measures 2 1/4” x 1 1/4”.

20% of the proceeds from these pins will go to , “a women-led nonprofit change organization working to build a more just society by empowering latinas to lead”. This local organization has been working really hard to support families affected by ICE.

Because the cost of silver has gone crazy, I thought it would be good to explore other ways to make jewelry, and I remembered that I used to love doing loom work. Back in the day, I made some very elaborate projects on a loom- a mandolin strap that depicted a mountainous landscape going through all four seasons, a camera strap with an intricate geometric pattern, a beautiful river belt, and lots of other smaller projects. I loved doing that work.

So here’s my first project. I jumped on this bandwagon and made this pin. I used an oversized safety pin as a nod to the safety pin as a symbol of solidarity when trump was first elected. I’m very pleased with it! I forgot how satisfying loom work is. The beads are glass, not plastic, and the finished product has a lovely feel to it. I’ve ordered more colors and am going to start my next project ❤️

I feel so humbled, but being in this place of need also feels potentially connective? Already I feel connected to other folks in need, have more of an understanding of how things can turn so fast. And I also hope to see what it feels like to feel connected to people who may want to help as well. I never thought I would be doing this, but my understanding is that this is a powerful platform for connecting with people who have the means and desire to help.

I know that times are tough for so many people right now, and I feel horrible asking for help. But if you don’t have any extra money, you can still help by sharing this and maybe it will make its way to some people who do? ❤️

For her 18th birthday, June wanted to get matching tattoos. She asked me to reserve this spot inside my wrist many years ago and she chose Violets, which is her birth flower. Love how they turned out! Thank you so much, , for such beautiful work ❤️

I don’t know what to say, and I feel as lost and confused as everyone else, but this little act of protest, participating in the march at the Portland ICE facility yesterday, did make me feel a tiny bit better. I felt like I was doing SOMETHING. If you’re feeling scared and uncertain and hopeless, I do believe this does make a difference. I’ve never been one to do this sort of thing, but I also just don’t know how to sit back and do nothing when I see what’s going on in our country. I am so sad and so afraid of what is coming, and I at least want to feel like I stood up in the ways that are available to me. Maybe you feel the same? Love to all of you ❤️

It has been such a long time since I’ve been here! My life continues to feel overwhelming- on a personal level and on a national level. It is becoming increasingly difficult for me to “put on a brave face” and trudge forward, and I am sure many of you are in the same boat.

I am continuing to try to make care of myself in all of the ways that I know how- weekly sessions with my fantastic therapist, being in nature as often as I can, spending time with my loved ones, focusing on the small ways I can make a difference, calming my nervous system with things like crocheting, staying off of social media as much as I can, etc. How are you all coping?

Additionally, of course, as I’m sure you have noticed, it feels nearly impossible to create jewelry while I am working full time. However, I am hopeful that I can get back to making things on a regular basis when summer comes back around.

I started making these bracelets in November ‘24! I ordered all the materials, including the African glass “Christmas beads” because I thought they would be great for you to give as gifts. Then I came across them this fall and vowed to make some for this holiday season, and still it did not happen. But I brought them on the solstice yurt trip I took with the girls and almost finished them! And now, here they are.

There are three- blue, green, and pink, with a combination of Thai & Bali silver, African glass, and gemstone beads. They measure just about 7 1/2” with sterling silver lobster clasp closures. I am hopeful that the bright cheerful colors, and the heart and sun charms, will bring some levity to your day in this time of darkness.

(This had been claimed but they changed their mind, so I am posting it again.)

Zinnias are so magnificent, and have long been revered for their beauty and healing properties. They were sacred to the Aztecs; Brazilian medicine men put them on the heads of their patients to cure madness; and the Pueblo people of the American Southwest fed the blossoms to their children, believing it would boost intelligence and eloquence. Different Native American cultures saw Zinnias as symbols of endurance and perseverance, acknowledging the flowers’ ability to thrive in tough conditions. (feminismandreligion.com)

Because Zinnias are symbolic of endurance and perseverance, I put “stay strong” on the back. Just like the Zinnias, we must learn to thrive in tough conditions, to endure extremely difficult circumstances, to exist in a time we never thought possible.

I cast the Zinnia and the leaf from wax, using the lost wax method. There is Ruby in center, for courage, passion, and love. Below the Zinnia is a Rainbow Moonstone raindrop (or a teardrop-you decide), for self-love and balance, and a silver leaf.

The pendant is designed to hang from leather, but if you would prefer a chain just let me know and I can add one instead. $160~ please message me to claim ❤️
