A few years ago, in 2021, while browsing a bead store I came across some flower and leaf beads that I thought would make an amazing beaded lei, so I bought them, specifically with my friend that had moved to Hawaii 4 years ago, in mind.

I met Kristie back in 2005 and we'd been friends ever since, even with the 6 hour difference we'd stay in touch at least weekly. When she decided to move to Hawaii in 2017 I was deeply saddened but after seeing how happy she was out there, I just cherished the times she could visit Ohio again.

Sadly, I never did get around to making it before she passed in 2023 from the fires. While she managed to get out, and flew back home by 2 connecting flights, she had inhaled a significant amount of smoke, and passed that night in her sleep.

So now I'm working on it. It will never be for sale. Just something that's in memory of someone that was so important to me.

I've been working on organizing both my beads and my home. Today, I tackled my pantry and snack cabinet, and I feel so much better for it. A few nights ago, when my body wouldn't let me sleep, I went through all my shaped beads and sorted them by type—before they were all mixed together in one container because they were considered "non-normal." Now, they're bagged with others of the same kind, though I still need to label the bags. I also went through my WIP beads and project items to determine what I'll actually return to and what I won't. I have a whole bag of things I need to tear apart and items I had completely forgotten about (shocker, right?), and now a container full of ready-to-go projects.

I'm so glad I didn't follow through on the thought I had two years ago to get rid of all my beads. I don't know what my therapy would be right now as I navigate this new stage, dealing with PNES and trying to find my new normal. Every day, I realize one more thing I'll likely never be able to do again, but I pick up my beads, let them be my therapy, and they calm me.

My Nautilus piece is all assembled! I wanted to make the clasp to mirror the centerpiece as I've never been one to do boring clasps, I like them to blend into my pieces. I went through a lot of options in my head before I decided to just do a mini-nautilus. And since it's so pretty - it couldn't just be at the back of the necklace! The clasp sits on the side (right near the collarbone) so I had to take a picture with it on so you could see what it looks like.
